Caregiver

Griswold Home Care in La Jolla is calling all compassionate individuals to apply to join our amazing team as a part-time Caregiver!

Compensation: $21-$25/hour based on experience

YOUR LIFE AS A CAREGIVER

This companionship and caregiving position offers flexible hours and opportunities to assist seniors on both day and night shifts. Clients may receive as little as 4 hours of care, while others require 24-hour care.

As a Caregiver, you have the rewarding job of helping seniors live as fully and independently as possible while remaining in the places they love. You competently provide non-medical elderly care and home companionship, helping with various homemaking responsibilities. With the client’s dignity always at the forefront of your mind, you help them maintain proper personal hygiene. You are gentle and professional as you aid them with daily tasks such as bathing and feeding. At times, you provide companionship to clients who have dementia or cognitive impairments. Your kind and patient demeanor serves you well as you ensure they receive the highest quality of elderly care.

You carefully complete documentation for each shift, submitting timely updates. Committed to providing consistent elderly care, you communicate routinely with the office about the condition and needs of your clients. You feel good about helping seniors enjoy their golden years, and you are glad you chose a career in the caregiving industry.

What We Need From You

Essential Duties: 

  • Language and literacy skills are adequate to communication needs and requests of the client
  • Must be able to read care plan
  • Must be able to communicate via telephone and/or text messages with Agency office
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from a client’s home
  • For cases requiring transportation, must have a valid driver’s license, positive driving record
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and alternate from stationary to traverse positions often and for extended periods of time 
  • Completion of required 5 hours of entry level training prior to client contact – may be provided by Agency  

Educational Background/Knowledge/Prior Experience: 

  • CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or HHA (Home Health Aide) certification preferred, but not required.
  • Registered as an Affiliate Home Care Aide (preferred). 
  • Registered on CA Home Care Aide Registry, includes fingerprint criminal offender record check (state & FBI) 
  • TB clearance that meets CA Health and Safety Code 1796.45
  • Valid TB clearance (within the last 90 days or completed within 7 days of hire).
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), associate degree preferred 
  • Human Services experience of at least 1 year is required 
  • Strong desire to help others is a must 
  • Alzheimer's/dementia/diabetic experience is a plus 

Necessary Attributes and Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrates empathy for vulnerable older adults and values their independence.
  • Ability to assist clients with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility assistance.
  • Comfortable assisting with transfers and providing hands-on support to a male client.
  • Compassionate, reliable, and committed to providing high-quality care and companionship. 
  • Able to prepare simple meals.
  • Completing daily tasks in a safe and professional manner 
  • Able to demonstrate appropriate cleaning technique for home environment
  • Maintain cheerful outlook while with client
  • Capable of working independently when needed
  • Punctual and hard working
