Job description

Director of Construction – Tampa, FL

Our client, a nationally recognized real estate developer, is seeking a Director of Construction to lead construction operations, tenant improvement projects, and capital improvement initiatives throughout the Tampa market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of construction projects, including tenant improvements, building renovations, and new construction.
  • Manage architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and subcontractors throughout design, permitting, and construction.
  • Oversee project budgets, schedules, bids, contracts, change orders, and vendor selection.
  • Partner closely with leasing and property management teams to deliver an exceptional tenant experience.
  • Review plans and specifications to ensure compliance with design standards, budgets, and project timelines.
  • Monitor construction progress, quality, safety, and adherence to project schedules.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with tenants, contractors, municipalities, and permitting officials.
  • Mentor and lead a team of construction professionals.
  • Support capital projects and major maintenance initiatives across the portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10–15+ years of progressive construction management experience.
  • Experience managing commercial construction projects, including tenant improvement work.
  • Background with developers, owners, major brokerage firms, or commercial general contractors preferred.
  • Strong budgeting, project management, and leadership skills.
  • Experience overseeing larger-scale commercial projects is highly desirable.
