Escalator Product Engineer - Coal Valley, IL


General Duties:

Perform engineering tasks associated with transit, modernization and commercial escalator eng.


Responsibilities include:


  • The development and maintenance of the various product specific variant configurations;

  • Global harmonization of the "Confidential Client" escalator product-lines

  • Department Product Change Management (PCM) tasks;

  • refinement of the engineering processes and practices;

  • complete accurate engineering listings per contract specifications;

  • creation of component BOM’s, part drawings, and assembly drawings;;

  • design improvements.


Additional Duties:


  • Application engineering assignments include the review and interpretation of job specific technical specifications, technical review process, pre-bid support, and O&M development.

  • Additional assignments include Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and Installation Operations technical support.

  • Support all escalator design issues including the determination of root cause and subsequent creation of corrective actions to resolve design discrepancies.


High Overview:

1. Refine the engineering process for the transit escalator E3X / E3M offering including the application engineering functions.
2. Organization of assignments regarding component BOM’s, part and assembly drawings, and variant configuration maintenance / development.
3. Development of a modernization product for the hi-rise transit market based upon KONE’s transit escalator E3X / E3M offering.
4. Support ESM manufacturing with design / B.O.M. issues during the manufacturing process.
5. Manage the development of manufacturing tools (fixtures, jigs, etc.)
6. Manage the updates to "Confidential Client" designated engineering / business software (ACAD; PRO-E; Inventor; SAP; e-Dstat; EDMS; etc.).
7. Coordinate the assignments of outsourced engineering personnel.
8. Support the HD Project Manager and Customer Service Manager with technical pre-bid support, engineering schedules, and production schedules.
9. Support local and global installation operations with technical assistance.
10. Utilize the warranty claim process and determine the root cause in regards to ESM engineering issues.
11. Utilize and manage the "Confidential Client" Quality WebCal system to document and determine appropriate Corrective Actions.
12. Assist with the development of the ESM PCM department.
13. Manage engineering personnel during C-process design projects.
14. Conduct job-site visits to review the product installation and determine design improvements based upon field feedback.
15. Provide input to annual budget requirements and manage approved department operating expenses.


Education:

Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university; or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience


Experience:

Engineering and management background is a MUST.


Specific Knowledge, Skills & Behaviors:
1. Ability to read, analyze and interpret escalator specifications, contracts, and financial reports.
2. Ability to understand and interpret ASME / B44 /EN115 Safety Code(s) for Escalators.
3. Ability to respond to common inquiries or concerns from customers or branch offices.
4. Able to effectively communicate and present information to top management, branch personnel, and/or "Confidential Client" customers.
5. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
