Job description

Summary:

The Front Desk Associate plays a vital role in the efficient operation of the hotel property. Their duties include making reservations, assigning rooms, registering arriving guests, processing payments and checking out guests. In addition, they are available to answer phones and meet the needs of guests whenever possible. Other duties include but are not limited to assisting in coffee/breakfast service and general care for the hotel property and coordinating issues with Housekeeping, Maintenance & Management.

Wages:

  • Hourly Wage: $18 per hour.
  • Bonus: Eligible for a work performance-based bonus of up to $0.50 for every hour worked from Monday, May 4 through Sunday, October 18; must work a minimum of 200 hours in total. The associate must work until the date of commitment, agreed to at the interview.

Essential Functions:

  • Welcome each guest with a smile and greeting; ensure all guest contact is courteous and informative during their stay.
  • Answer the phone promptly and provide accurate information; deliver messages & packages to guests & co-workers.
  • Take phone and walk-in reservations, recording complete information and making the optimal room assignment.
  • Know the Hotel - room types, amenities, rate schedule, available packages, procedures, and policies for guests.
  • Know the RDP (Resort Data Processing) property management software for accurate check-in, in-house changes, and check-out of guests.
  • Process deposits and payments in cash/check/credit; process standard refunds; and balance the cash drawer.
  • Process registration cards, keys/cards, parking tags and other materials for check-in and check-out.
  • Resolve any guest questions, concerns, or problems, with the assistance of Management, if necessary.
  • Communicate to the Operations Manager or Manager on Duty any unusual matters requiring corrective action.
  • Communicate room needs with Housekeeping and repair issues with Maintenance.
  • Monitor the coffee bar supplies and tidy the counter.
  • Maintain a tidy appearance of the front desk and the lobby; check inventory of office supplies.
  • Know the restaurants and services in the immediate area of the hotel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of customer service experience or equivalent.
  • Fluent in speaking and reading the English language.
  • General computer knowledge and literacy.
  • Attention to detail in paperwork and computer data entry.
  • An enthusiastic, professional, courteous, positive attitude with guests, outside vendors, and co-workers.
  • Quick-thinking to continually anticipate needs/conflicts and possible solutions.
  • Ability to listen actively and continually anticipate needs/conflicts and possible solutions.
  • Demonstrate initiative and work as a member of a team with Management, Front Desk, Housekeeping and Maintenance
  • Able to arrive to work in-person, on-time, as scheduled, and wearing the hotel uniform.
  • Adherence to company grooming standards.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Previous front desk experience preferred.
  • Experience with computer or electronic databases.
  • Knowledge of the Wildwood and Cape May County areas.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Able to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays, especially during the summer season.
  • Flexible in working day or evening hours, full-time or part-time.
  • During peak-season, works up to 6 days per week with more than 40 hours per week.
  • Mainly works indoors in an office/lobby environment, sitting or standing at a computer terminal.
  • Must be able to stand, stoop, or stretch for long periods of time and walk the hotel grounds.
  • Ability to type, file, sit, stand, and lift office supplies of up to 25 lbs.
  • Able to handle the stress of multiple guests with a variety of needs.
