Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Saddleback Medical Center. It is expected that the employee demonstrates behavior consistent with our core values: Integrity, Accountability, Best Practices, Compassion and Synergy. The employee shall support Saddleback Medical Center's strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.

The Admitting ER Supervisor reports directly to the Admitting Manager. The supervisor is responsible for the admitting employees working in the emergency room. The ER admitting department is 24/7. The supervisor ensures that the department operates efficiently and effectively by providing educational and training information to the team. Assists in completing staff evaluations. Assists with the cash drawer and deposits as needed. Stays within the department budget and works on minimizing overtime. The supervisor participates as a member of the management team and helps to resolve issues as they arise. Promotes a positive team environment and maintains effective working relationships with all team members. Fills in when needed to ensure there is coverage and that all tasks are completed. Responsible for working and updating accounts on the work-queues. Employee exhibits independent judgment and has a thorough understanding of department and hospital procedures.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

1.                   Ability to supervise and lead the activities of the team to ensure work objectives are met.

2.                   Ability to assist in improving and sustaining the department engagement survey score.

3.                   Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, research problems and solve issues.

4.                   Monitors and manages work queues daily.

5.                   Ability to interpret insurance benefits, authorization requirements, and admission requirements

6.                   Ability to role model outstanding customer service skills using "Simply Better" and AIDET principles.

7.                   Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.

8.                   Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner and promotes conflict resolution.

9.                   Serves as a knowledgeable and available resource to the team.

10.               Assists in reducing employee turnover and helps to build employee job satisfaction.

11.               Ability to be at work and be on time.

12.               Ability to follow company policies, procedures, and directives.

13.               Ability to prioritize and multitask.

Experience

                   Minimum of 3 or more years of supervisory experience in ER admitting, business office, physician office or healthcare equivalent.

                   Knowledgeable and familiar with all aspects of the admitting department.

                   Strong customer service skills.

                   Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.

                   General knowledge of insurance payors: PPO, HMO, POS, EPO, Medicare, Medi-Cal, & Cal-Optima.

                   Bi-lingual (English/Spanish, or English/Vietnamese) preferred.

                   Positive work ethic.

                   General computer skills required including electronic medical record and Microsoft Office.

                   Knowledge of medical terminology.

Education

Some college preferred.

Medical terminology course or certificate preferred.
