Job description

About the Role:

Wolfe Research is seeking an Equity Research Associate, SMID Biotech to join its team in NYC. Wolfe Research was voted #6 on a weighted basis for equity research during 2025 by institutional clients in the prestigious Extel's All American Research Poll, trailing only significantly larger bulge bracket firms, who have historically not been viewed as our peers. The firm’s clients include most of the world’s largest asset managers (mutual funds, pension funds, hedge funds). Our firm covers publicly traded companies in many different industries across the US and abroad – the main focus is quality research, but we also do investment banking.

Equity research job covering: SMID Biotechnology. Candidates should have strong familiarity with the biotech sector. This experience could come from: (1) working in a similar financial role already, either on the "buyside" or "sell-side" in the healthcare/therapeutics space; (2) working in the biotech industry (ideally in a business function such as sales & marketing, business development, portfolio assessment, R&D and medical affairs); (3) working at a consulting firm where clients are biotech companies or (4) working in clinical research in an area related to immunology, cardiovascular and genetic diseases.


Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • Ability to analyze drug development and clinical trial design/data analysis
  • Deep analysis of scientific literature to inform investment theses and analysis of therapeutic areas in immunology, cardiovascular and genetic diseases
  • Strong familiarity with financial concepts including: the basics of corporate finance such as 3-statement financial modeling; forecasting; and valuation techniques
  • Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills: working with large data sets in Excel/Access, and ability to source and process information independently
  • Demonstrated ability to generate ideas: work closely and communicate effectively in a time sensitive environment, ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines, strong organizational skills, client service minded and strong writing skills
  • Must enjoy following the stock market and developing industry themes
  • Technical skills: Bloomberg and/or FactSet skills helpful; Excel (macros, pivot tables, conditional formatting, short cuts).
  • Strong communication skills: particularly an ability to write concisely using correct grammar
  • Comfortable working 10+ hour workdays and some work on occasional weekends
  • SIE, Series 7, 63, 86 & 87 licensure is preferred, or expected to be completed within the first 6 months of joining 

 Education:

  • BA/BS required, concentration must be in a scientific area relevant to the job
  • MBA, CPA, PharmD or PhD in a scientific area relevant to the job is not required, but is a plus
  • Demonstrated academic ability with a minimum of 3.5 GPA

The compensation for this role is market competitive with a base salary range of $95,000-$130,000. We intend to offer the selected candidate a base salary within this range, based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to skill set, job-related experience, and location. In addition, we offer an annual discretionary incentive bonus and competitive employee benefits including: medical, dental and vision coverage; life, accident and disability insurance.
