What is an Epic Go Live Consultant?

An Epic Go Live Consultant supports healthcare organizations during the implementation and activation of the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system. They assist end-users, such as doctors, nurses, and administrative staff, in navigating the new system, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring a smooth transition. These consultants typically have expertise in specific Epic modules and provide at-the-elbow support, training, and issue resolution during the go-live period. Their goal is to minimize disruptions, maximize user adoption, and ensure workflow efficiency.

What are the typical responsibilities of an Epic Go Live Consultant during an implementation project?

As an Epic Go Live Consultant, you are primarily responsible for providing on-site support to clinical and administrative staff during the launch of the Epic electronic health record system. Your daily tasks may include troubleshooting issues, answering end-user questions, offering just-in-time training, and documenting common problems for escalation. You’ll work closely with hospital staff, IT teams, project managers, and Epic analysts to ensure a smooth transition and minimal disruption to patient care. The role may involve working long or irregular hours during the critical go-live window, but it offers valuable experience in healthcare IT and opportunities to advance to broader project management or EHR optimization roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Epic Go Live Consultant position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Epic Go Live Consultant, you need a strong understanding of Epic EHR systems, healthcare workflows, and project management, often supported by Epic certification and healthcare IT experience. Familiarity with key Epic modules, ticketing systems, and training tools is typically required for the role. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are crucial soft skills in this position. These skills ensure a smooth transition during system go-lives, efficient troubleshooting, and effective support for end-users.
