Job description

Environmental EngineerThe Environmental Engineer is responsible for helping the refinery maintain compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations, as well as promoting continuous improvement in environmental performance. This individual will work directly with employees and contractors in the refinery to ensure day-to-day regulatory compliance by developing procedures, conducting training and monitoring field activities.

Principal Responsibilities
Support the refinery in meeting environmental objectives and goals.
Serve as the subject matter expert for all aspects of NPDES industrial and storm water permitting and compliance including Section 316(b) under the Clean Water Act.
Serve as the subject matter expert and principal reporting person for the refinery's Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMs) overseeing each quality assurance aspect.
Serve as the subject matter expert for all aspects of the refinery's maintenance dredging program.
Serve as the subject matter expert for the refinery Benzene Waste Organic NESHAP program in fulfilling all programmatic accounting, recordkeeping and reporting.
Support the refinery in meeting environmental objectives and goals.
Review MOC's and operating procedures, participate in safety audits, and perform other actions as needed for refinery environmental compliance.
Participate in rotational on-call assignment as required.
Other Environmental Departmental duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical, Environmental or related Engineering field required.
Demonstrated knowledge, expertise, and ability to troubleshoot and provide guidance on biological wastewater treatment plant operation is preferred.
Computer proficiency with Excel and other MS Office suite programs required.
Five to ten years of relevant experience in refining or petrochemicals preferred.
Initiative to work with minimal oversight, and to work effectively in a team environment required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) required.
A basic understanding of refinery operations and familiarity with refinery data collection systems, environmental procedures and reporting requirements preferred.
Knowledge of refinery regulatory requirements in air pollution is a plus.
