Customs Entry Writer

Full Time Clerical Lynbrook, NY, US

Salary Range: $65,000.00 To $75,000.00 Annually

Omnitrans, part of the Fracht Group is seeking an experienced Import Specialist – Customs Entry Writer & Import Forwarding to join our New York/Long Island team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on Customs entry writing and import forwarding experience, with the ability to manage shipments from arrival through Customs clearance and final delivery. We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented professional who takes ownership, solves problems, and provides excellent customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities

Customs Brokerage & Entry Writing

  • Process U.S. Customs and Participating Government Agency (PGA) entries for clearance of imported goods.
  • Review import documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Ensure timely filing of Importer Security Filings (ISF) and Customs entries.
  • Review and apply HTS classifications and applicable duties, taxes, fees, and tariff requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable government agencies, including FDA, USDA, EPA, USFWS, DOT, FCC, and others.
  • Identify and resolve entry discrepancies, Customs holds, examinations, and other clearance issues.
  • Communicate with CBP, customers, and internal stakeholders to resolve Customs-related matters.
  • Support post-entry corrections and other post-entry activities, as needed.
  • Manage import air and ocean shipments from pre-alert and arrival through Customs clearance, release, and final delivery.
  • Review commercial invoices, packing lists, air waybills, bills of lading, arrival notices, and other import documentation.
  • Coordinate cargo availability and release with airlines, ocean carriers, terminals, warehouses, and other service providers.
  • Coordinate final delivery with truckers and transportation providers.
  • Communicate with overseas offices and agents regarding shipment documentation, status, and operational requirements.
  • Track shipments and provide customers with timely and proactive status updates.
  • Identify and resolve shipment delays, discrepancies, storage exposure, and other operational issues.

Customer Service & Operational Excellence

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Provide proactive, professional, and timely communication throughout the shipment process.
  • Manage multiple shipments and competing priorities in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Take ownership of operational issues through resolution and escal**ate** when appropriate.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy, compliance, on-time performance, and customer service.
  • Maintain accurate shipment documentation, milestones, and billing/cost information in CargoWise.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, customers, overseas offices, carriers, and vendors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of Customs brokerage/entry writing experience.
  • Hands-on import air and ocean forwarding experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, HTS classification, ISF filings, and applicable PGA requirements.
  • Ability to independently manage import shipments from pre-alert/arrival through Customs clearance and final delivery.
  • Strong attention to detail with effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • CargoWise experience strongly preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
  • U.S. Customs Broker License is a plus, but not required.
