Job description

The Web Administrator reports to the Director of Creative and Production in Communications and performs highly complex (senior-level) web design and content development work. This role manages and will assist in the migration of multiple related sites of the Texas Education Agency's flagship website, which has over 3,000 pages. The Web Administrator collaborates closely with the IT Web Services team and acts as a liaison between the Communications Division and the IT Web Services team. This position will collaborate with content managers to ensure a smooth transition of web content and functionality. The Web Administrator should have experience with the Drupal content management system (CMS), a strong understanding of web and accessibility standards, and a proven track record of executing complex web designs. Responsibilities include preparing graphics, text, and tables; updating web content and assisting web contributors; determining the size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy; ensuring PDF accessibility; and other related tasks. This position balances technical expertise with effective communication and represents the Communications team in cross-departmental projects. The Web Administrator works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Assist in the planning and execution of multiple related website migrations of the Texas Education Agency's flagship website ensuring content is current, functional, accessible, and user-friendly. Collaborate with the IT Web Services team to ensure website performance is optimized for speed, reliability, and scalability. Test code, designs, and content for validity and compatibility with browsers and devices. Monitors website analytics and performance metrics. Serve as the main point of contact between the Communications Division and the IT Web Services team, effectively translating technical requirements into functional communication strategies.
Coordinate and assist web contributors with implementation of new content, updates to existing content, and enhancements to the website's infrastructure, functionality, and design. Collaborate with content managers to ensure a smooth transition of web content and functionality. Monitor and troubleshoot issues that arise during the migration process, providing timely resolutions. Maintain and update website content, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all related sites. Implement best practices for website performance, security, and SEO. Administer and update the website's content through Drupal CMS. Maintain best practices for content creation, navigation, governance, and quality control. Provide support and guidance to content contributors across various offices and division departments to ensure consistent use of the CMS and adherence to web content standards and policies.
Ensure the website complies with WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.1 AA requirements and other relevant accessibility standards. Collaborate with the IT Web Services team to address and resolve accessibility issues and implement best practices for design and development. Provide accessibility assistance and support with remediation for presentations, documents, websites, forms or other digital formats to make content accessible.

Strong portfolio of highly complex web design, demonstrating a solid understanding of user-centered design
principles, front-end web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and back-end integration.
In-depth understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA), tools for testing accessibility
Hands-on experience remediating accessibility issues
Strong knowledge of SEO best practices and website performance optimization techniques
Familiarity with responsive design principles and mobile-first strategies
Ability to translate technical language into clear communication for non-technical stakeholders
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across different teams
