Job description

The Technical Editor will perform a range of editorial tasks (e.g., copy-editing, formatting, proofreading, indexing, posting, and general word processing) for various legal publication content, including short articles, forms/notices/template documents, in-depth white papers or reports, and books/treatises. This is a remote position located in Kansas City, MO. Responsibilities Edit submitted content from subject matter experts to ensure clarity, accuracy (in spelling, punctuation, and grammar), consistency in style/format, and compliance with the Firm's Style, Grammar and Formatting Guidelines across various media.

Review legal citation formats for adherence to Bluebook formatting and help verify additional information referenced in written material, including working hyperlinks, dates, spelling of names, places, organizations, agency address and contact phone numbers, etc. Maintain and update editorial and stylistic standards, including style guides and manuals as well as process and procedure manuals to assist with department quality controls and process checks; draft new documentation and process guidelines in consultation with colleagues as needed. Collaborate with KM teams to ensure final products meet Firm quality standards, adhere to form/format requirements, and are delivered on schedule.

Transfer content into online platforms (e.g., Firm intranet, website, CMS, third-party distribution channels/platforms, etc.), ensuring formatting consistency, readability, and adherence to platform-specific style standards (e.g., headings, bullet point or numbered lists, hyperlinks). Troubleshoot formatting issues during content migration and perform final quality checks to ensure proper display across platforms and devices/browsers. Leverage Firm tools, including Firm-approved AI-powered tools to improve editing speed, consistency, and quality; collaborate with KM colleagues to pilot and implement AI-assisted editorial processes and automation tools.

Identify and recommend additional improvements to editorial workflows and administrative systems to enhance efficiency and reduce manual effort. Help monitor and report on editorial metrics to support continuous improvement and dataโ€driven decision making. Prioritize and coordinate multiple projects to meet internal and external deadlines.

Perform other/additional duties as may be assigned from time to time. Qualifications Knowledge of and skill in English required; knowledge of the legal system preferred, with emphasis or experience with employment and labor law a plus. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word (including styles, formatting, and troubleshooting), PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook; familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and basic HTML and WYSIWYG editors a plus.

Able to quickly become proficient with various applications and content management systems (e.g., Drupal, SharePoint, WordPress). Excellent vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills; acute attention to detail a must. Working knowledge of formatting legal citations preferred.

Written and oral communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills, necessary to coordinate with others and to provide information in a professional manner across teams. Ability to manage multiple tasks independently in a deadlineโ€driven environment. Professional demeanor consistent with law firm standards.

Education & Certifications Bachelor's Degree is required. Preferably in a related field (English, Journalism, Law). Experience Required Minimum 4 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
