Job description

Description INTERVIEW AND HIRE POSITION (All eligible candidates will be invited to interview based upon standardized MDTA organizational criteria) The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes across the State of Maryland. For over 50 years, the MDTA has provided Maryland's citizens and visitors with safe, secure, and convenient transportation facilities. Nature of Work: This is entry level professional accountant work in the Division of Finance. The employee is part of a Treasury Unit team performing monthly reconciliation of trust accounts with assets exceeding $1 billion. The employee will also work closely with other Finance Division units.

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Assist with the agency's weekly banking activities that include transferring funds between accounts/institutions, uploading of data to financial institutions, positive pay verification, clearing checks and addressing returned item issues; Assist with recording journal entries associated with investment transactions and cash activities, as well as maintaining the investment accounting database with periodic trade input, monthly amortization/accretion, interest accrual, and bond pricing; Learn to maintain schedules associated with investments and debt, including amortization tables related to bond premiums and cost of issuance; Learn to calculate the monthly trust indenture required deposits to various bond service accounts, maintain debt service schedules, support the Unit Director in investment activities, cash flow modeling, spending analysis, bond draws, and confirm investment transactions and transfers; and Assist with development of year-end financial statements specifically related to investment holdings, including the balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement and supplemental schedules and notes. The work is performed under the close supervision of the Fiscal Services Administrator I (Treasury Supervisor). The current vacancy is located in Baltimore, MD.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing. Experience: None. Notes: Candidates may substitute a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with thirty credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing, for the required education.
