What is an entry level position at a title company?

An entry level position at a title company typically involves assisting with the processing and closing of real estate transactions. Common roles include title clerk, escrow assistant, or administrative support, where employees help review property records, prepare documents, and communicate with clients. These positions are ideal for those new to the real estate industry, offering valuable experience in legal documentation, customer service, and the overall closing process. Training is often provided on the job, and there are usually opportunities for advancement as you gain experience and knowledge.

What are some common responsibilities for an entry-level position at a title company?

Entry-level professionals at a title company typically assist with document preparation, data entry, and coordinating communications between clients, real estate agents, and lenders. You may help review public records, process title orders, and support closing transactions under the supervision of more experienced staff. This role often involves learning about title insurance, escrow procedures, and legal documentation, making it a great starting point for those interested in real estate or legal careers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an entry-level role at a title company, and why are they important?

Success in an entry-level title company position requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and a basic understanding of real estate or legal processes, often supported by a high school diploma or associate degree. Familiarity with title and escrow software, document management systems, and Microsoft Office is typically necessary. Strong communication, customer service abilities, and a willingness to learn help employees build relationships and adapt to evolving tasks. These skills are essential to ensure accurate document handling, smooth transactions, and positive client interactions in the real estate industry.

Job description

Join a Team That Believes Everyone Should Be on Team Close the Deal.

EXPERIENCED TITLE PROCESSOR | SCHERERVILLE, IN
Full-Time | 100% In-Office.
3+ Years of Professional Residential Title Processing Experience Required.
This is NOT a remote or hybrid position.

You spend too much of your life at work to work somewhere you don't feel appreciated.
At Barrister Title, we believe exceptional closings begin with exceptional people. We trust experienced professionals to do what they do best, communicate openly, solve problems, and take ownership of their work.
When the office gets busy, everyone pitches in. You'll find leadership working alongside the team. We don't believe in saying, "That's not my job." Whether it's helping a teammate, answering a client's question, or solving a last-minute issue, we're all on Team Close the Deal.

And when the deal closes? We celebrate.
If you're an experienced Title Processor who knows how to take ownership of a file, stay ahead of deadlines, communicate confidently, and keep transactions moving, we'd love to meet you.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for an Experienced Title Processor with at least 3 years of professional residential title processing experience who can confidently manage purchase and refinance files from opening through preparation for closing.

This is not an entry-level position.

Our ideal candidate already understands the title process and can communicate confidently with Realtors, lenders, attorneys, buyers, and sellers without needing constant supervision.
When our closers are at the closing table, you're the experienced title professional the office can rely on to answer questions, solve problems, follow up on outstanding items, and keep transactions moving forward.
You should be comfortable taking ownership of your files, recognizing when something needs attention, and knowing what needs to happen next.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Process residential purchase and refinance transactions from opening through closing preparation.
  • Review title commitments and coordinate title clearance with examiners.
  • Identify outstanding title requirements and proactively work toward resolution.
  • Order and follow up on payoffs, HOA information, tax information, surveys, and other required items.
  • Prepare settlement statements, Closing Disclosures, CPLs, and closing packages.
  • Coordinate directly with lenders, Realtors, attorneys, buyers, and sellers.
  • Monitor contract and closing deadlines.
  • Proactively follow up on outstanding documentation and requirements.
  • Keep all parties informed throughout the transaction.
  • Work closely with closers, examiners, and support staff to ensure files are ready for closing.
  • Anticipate potential problems and help resolve them before they become closing-day emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate and organized electronic files.
  • Provide knowledgeable assistance when closers or other team members are unavailable.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 3 years of professional residential Title Processor experience.
  • Strong understanding of residential purchase and refinance transactions.
  • Experience reviewing title commitments and working through title requirements.
  • Experience obtaining payoffs, releases, and other title clearance documentation.
  • Experience preparing settlement statements and closing packages.
  • Ability to communicate confidently with lenders, Realtors, attorneys, buyers, and sellers.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple active files and competing deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
  • Outstanding communication and customer service skills.

PREFERRED:
  • SoftPro experience.
  • Experience preparing Closing Disclosures and CPLs.
  • Northwest Indiana title experience.
  • Experience working directly with title examiners and closers.

YOU'LL THRIVE HERE IF YOU:
  • Take ownership instead of making excuses.
  • Think ahead and anticipate what's needed next.
  • Know that unanswered emails and phone calls don't make problems disappear.
  • Stay calm when a transaction gets complicated.
  • Communicate proactively.
  • Follow through on what you say you'll do.
  • Enjoy solving problems.
  • Notice the details that can make or break a closing.
  • Enjoy helping teammates succeed.
  • Understand that exceptional customer service matters just as much as accurate paperwork.
  • Believe everyone has a role in getting the deal to the closing table.

WHY BARRISTER TITLE?
Experienced title professionals have choices. We're building the kind of workplace where talented people want to stay.
At Barrister Title you'll find:
  • Leadership that trusts experienced professionals instead of micromanaging them.
  • A supportive, team-first environment where people help one another.
  • Leadership that's accessible and willing to jump in when needed.
  • Beautiful, professional offices you'll be proud to work in.
  • A company known for responsiveness, problem-solving, and exceptional client service.
  • The opportunity to build relationships with Realtors, attorneys, lenders, and clients throughout Northwest Indiana.
  • A workplace where your knowledge, ideas, and contributions are valued.
  • A team that understands what it takes to get a transaction successfully across the finish line.

ABOUT BARRISTER TITLE
Barrister Title is known for being responsive, helpful, and solution-oriented.
Our clients know they'll be treated with professionalism and kindness. Our Realtor partners know we'll answer the phone, communicate honestly, and work together to solve problems whenever possible.
We believe everyone should be on Team Close the Deal.

That means owning our responsibilities, communicating with each other, helping when help is needed, solving problems instead of passing them along—and celebrating together when another transaction successfully closes.

BENEFITS:
  • Competitive Pay.
  • Paid Time Off.
  • Paid Holidays.
  • Health & Dental Insurance.
  • 401(k).
  • Opportunities for Continued Growth.
