Position Summary

The HVAC Service Helper is an entry-level support role designed for individuals beginning a career in the skilled trades. This position assists HVAC Service Technicians with jobsite preparation, basic tasks, and logistical support while learning foundational safety practices, tools, and field operations. This role is primarily focused on readiness and exposure, not fully independent technical execution. The HVAC Helper builds transferable field skills and mechanical aptitude in preparation for advancement into the formal HVAC Technician career path. This role primarily supports EMCOR Services Aircond - City, State. The schedule is Monday-Friday, 8 am-5 pm EST.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Field & Jobsite Support

  • Assist technicians with jobsite setup, cleanup, and organization
  • Transport tools, materials, and equipment to and from work areas
  • Support basic maintenance work under close supervision
  • Perform non-technical tasks that enable efficient service delivery

Preventive Maintenance Assistance

  • Assist with simple maintenance activities such as:
    • Filter changes
    • Coil cleaning preparation
    • Clearing debris and maintaining work areas
  • Observe and learn PM procedures performed by technicians

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and jobsite rules
  • Maintain a strong focus on safe work habits and hazard awareness
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions or incidents

Driving & Vehicle Responsibility

  • Operate a company vehicle to travel to job sites as needed
  • Maintain a clean driving record in accordance with company MVR requirements
  • Comply with all company vehicle, safety, and usage policies
  • Ensure cleanliness and basic organization of assigned vehicle

Customer Interaction & Professionalism

  • Present a professional image at all times
  • Demonstrate respectful and courteous behavior at customer sites
  • Support technicians in delivering a positive customer experience

Tools & Learning Development

  • Learn proper use and handling of basic hand tools
  • Shadow technicians to gain exposure to HVAC systems and service work
  • Develop basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of trade environments

Operational Support

  • Perform other duties that support field operations and service teams

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of transferable work experience required, which may include:
  • Construction, trades, or mechanical environments
  • Field service or route-based roles
  • Warehouse, logistics, or distribution work
  • General labor or physical hands-on roles
  • HVAC experience is not required
  • Demonstrated interest in learning a skilled trade (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, etc.).
  • Experience using hand tools or working in outdoor/non-climate-controlled environments.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Basic time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent rapport-building skills to foster a positive experience for customers and colleagues.
  • Disciplined work ethic and a collaborative, team-oriented nature.
  • High sense of urgency, keen attention to detail, proven problem-solving skills, and the ability to think critically in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to safely operate a company vehicle.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Must meet Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) standards for insurability.
  • Must meet company background check requirements.
