Overview:
Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is seeking an entry-level Associate Engineer to support the design, manufacturing, system integration, and test of maritime ocean systems at our Pawcatuck, CT location. APS works on exciting and challenging technologies that will expose candidates to a wide variety of multidisciplinary fields and allow for unique growth opportunities and learning experiences. This position closely supports Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineers by integrating designs into systems, tracking manufacturing and assembly progress, troubleshooting and documenting production and technical issues, maintaining test equipment and production inventory, and helping the team deliver quality products to test and to the customer.
APS works on exciting, technically challenging, research & development programs where multidisciplinary teams work closely to address difficult national security needs. At APS you will work in a small company environment where technical and administrative excellence are rewarded, and an entrepreneurial spirit is encouraged. This position will allow applicants to make meaningful contributions to the core APS mission.
Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Manufacturing Support: Provide immediate technical assistance to the manufacturing operations to resolve production issues. Identify the need for fixtures, tooling, process changes, etc.
  • Process Improvement: Enhance manufacturing methods, streamline operations, implement tooling, software or advanced manufacturing methods.
  • Technical Documentation: Technical documentation review (drawings, lists, processes, etc.), Maintaining and validating Bills of Materials (BOMs), updating manufacturing routings, Redlining and updating manufacturing drawings, process instructions or test procedures.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensuring products meet design and quality standards specified by design documentation, industry standards and APS' Quality Management System.
  • Collaboration: Working with designers, fabricators, technicians, suppliers and quality departments.
Required Skills and Attributes
  • BS degree in a Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering discipline.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of general manufacturing industry equipment, processes, systems, and philosophies.
  • Familiar with Microsoft software products (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Preferred Skills and Attributes
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD modeling software.
  • Ability to read and create mechanical fabrication drawings.
  • Experience or training in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Experience using MS Project or project/production planning software.
