Overview

The Newman Center at the Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi campus is hiring a full-time Spiritual Formation Coordinator.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The list below reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the primary functions of the job identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.

  • As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both your professional and personal life
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
  • Models and encourages spiritual growth of all students in Newman Center activities while remaining sensitive to the diversity of students.
  • Assists the Rector-Chaplain for the development of spiritual formation activities.
  • Assists the Rector-Chaplain, in collaboration with the Diocesan Vocation Director, for programs and content of discernment nights and other co-sponsored events.
  • Provides spiritual accompaniment and training to students in the discipleship training program.
  • Assists the Rector-Chaplain in the spiritual formation of students including:
    • OCIA Instruction
    • Sacramental Preparation
    • Marriage Preparation
  • Encourages active participation in liturgies by inviting students to be liturgical ministers
    • Ministry of Hospitality
    • Lectors
    • Altar Servers
    • Music Ministry
  • Assists the Rector-Chaplain in facilitating days of reflection, spiritual conferences, and retreats including
    • Freshmen retreats
    • Senior retreats
    • Islander Awakening Retreat
    • Huddles
    • Encounter Nights

Mental/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more
  • Ability to maintain composure under duress; maintain emotional control under stress
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Theology, Ministry, Religious Studies, or a related field preferred
  • At least two years of ministry experience with a college or university campus ministry or young adult ministry
  • Know the basic teachings of the Catholic Church and live by them with an openness to learn more about the Faith
  • Food handler's license preferred
  • Valid Texas driver's license

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal with attention to customer service
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and clients
  • Proficiency with computer hardware and basic office software
  • Ability to maintain composure under duress

Additional Requirements:

  • Submit to employment required screenings, criminal background check, and drug screening
  • Certified in Safe Environment training provided by the Office of Safe Environment and Child and Family Resources
  • Position requires adherence to diocesan policies and procedures
  • MVR requirement
