Familiarity with measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, and computerized inspection systems is often required, and some positions may value certification such as Six Sigma White Belt. Job description

Description:

At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields.

We’re looking for an entry-level Quality Control Technician (QC Tech) to support our job-site teams and help ensure top-quality concrete paving work across our projects. In this role, you’ll work closely with project leaders to review plans, monitor results, and coordinate with outside QC partners to keep things running smoothly.

This position is a great fit if you're just starting out in the construction or QC world, enjoy hands-on work, and are ready to travel to some exciting project locations—including Charlotte, NC; Nashville, TN; Aiken, SC; and others as needed. You’ll learn a lot, grow your skills, and be a part of building runways and roadways that really matter.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with the QC Manager to help prepare mix designs for concrete paving, both on-site and at off-site labs.
  • Check daily that the work meets our quality control and quality assurance plans.
  • Review current QC/QA testing and documentation processes and help improve them when needed.
  • Organize and summarize QC/QA results across projects in a clear format for management reviews.
  • Learn and understand project specifications, including testing standards, material production, and performance expectations.
  • Coordinate with Hi-Way’s internal QC team and external partners to ensure consistent quality.
  • Share key project requirements with the production team before and during operations.
  • Get familiar with project-specific drawings and specs for each job.
  • Partner with batch plant and field crews to make sure quality is built into every step.
  • Build strong relationships with Owner reps on our projects.
  • Report to project sites daily, based on directions from the QC Manager.
  • Keep daily notes and create reports as needed for each project.

What We Look For:

  • Currently hold or able to attain ACI Level 1 concrete field/lab certification.
  • 0-1 years in a role with progressive knowledge in concrete paving, quality control/assurance, or other related experience, preferred.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to travel up to 100%.
  • Currently hold or be able to obtain certifications for nuclear density gauge operation.
  • Currently hold or be able to obtain certifications for field technician, plant technician, and mix design tech, as required for states or jobs.
  • Currently hold or be able to obtain other certifications to work in other states (e.g., TN, NC, SC, OH, VA, WV), if required.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
    • Willingness to travel 100% of the time.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces.
    • Must be at least 18 years old to meet employment requirements.
    • If applicable, indicate union affiliation in your application.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits package.
  • Career growth and development in the growing and essential construction industry.
  • A commitment to excellence and professionalism through building and supporting high-performing teams.
  • An open, inclusive, and innovative family-owned business environment focused on training and safety for all employees.
