POSITION SUMMARY:
The Utility Operator position is responsible for day-to-day maintenance throughout the plant, housekeeping in the plant, assist with loading of trucks and railcars, and the removal of lime/limestone waste from the plant to designated dump areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:
  • Perform General Plant labor in all operational areas of the plant.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of kiln and kiln-related systems.
  • Clean bins, conveyers, spills, material from under conveyers and catwalks, and other cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Continuously observe, monitor, and report any condition that could lead to equipment failure or a safety hazard.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment including vacuum truck, haul truck, bobcat, loader, man lift, forklift, shuttle wagon, and tractor in a safe manner.
  • Assist maintenance in preventative care and minor repairs of equipment used.
  • Assist in kiln outage work, as needed.
  • Learn various entry level positions and cross train in other areas of the plant as needed.
  • Responsible for completing equipment and work area inspections.
  • Perform all assigned work adhering to Company and governmental safety rules and regulation and follow company lock out tag out procedures.
  • Report any potential operational or safety problems to management.
  • Comply with all Safe Food Safe Feed Rules and Regulations
  • All other duties as assigned.

ATTRIBUTES:
  • Industrial background with good troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledgeable of current environmental regulations and practices as they relate to the lime industry.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment is desired.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations is required.
  • Must be able to work shift work, seven days a week including holidays and be flexible to schedule changes, including overtime.
  • Must have a telephone and be open to callouts.
  • Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust.
  • Effectively communicate and interact with supervisors, managers, and peers.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Must be able to tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to high temperature, noise, and dust.
  • Must be able to access all plant locations and perform the essential job duties of this position. This could include heights of 190 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment is desired.
  • Ability to occasionally lift/carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as work orders, mechanical drawings, safety rules, standard operating procedures, maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Knowledgeable of current environmental regulations and practices as they relate to the lime industry.
  • Must perform all tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 1-2 years' experience in industrial environment.
