The Department of Chemical Engineering (ChE) at the University of Michigan invites applications and nominations for the position of Department Chair.
Having recently celebrated its 125th anniversary, ChE is among the oldest chemical engineering departments with a long tradition of excellence in research and education. Today, ChE has 26 core T&TT faculty members, 9 affiliated faculty, 2 full-time teaching faculty, 34 staff, 200 PhD students, and 300 undergraduate students (sophomore-junior-senior). The successful candidate for Department Chair will be an exceptional, world-class scholar with a distinguished track record in chemical engineering and will have an exemplary record of achievement and impact in research, teaching, and service at a level commensurate with the appointment as a tenured full professor. The candidate must possess demonstrated leadership abilities, a bold vision for chemical engineering, a broad appreciation for a diversity of backgrounds, experiences and the perspectives, a strong interest in mentoring, a desire to promote impactful research across all areas of ChE, and the aspiration to continue ChE's ascent to one of the world's elite chemical engineering programs. The candidate will ensure that learning of the highest quality flourishes at all levels, from undergraduate education to graduate and postdoctoral research. The candidate will work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and administrators to achieve common goals and to maintain rapport with alumni and industry representatives.

In addition, applicants are asked to submit a two-page vision for the department that describes how the candidate will advance the ChE program. Applicants should be prepared to share a list of names and contact information for at least five references upon being shortlisted.
The deadline for ensuring full consideration of an application is December 2, 2024, but the position will remain open, and applications will continue to be considered until the position is filled. The search will be conducted in confidence until finalists are identified prior to a public campus visit.
