The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for a three-year lecturer appointment in our Division of Engineering Programs. The Division of Engineering Programs at SUNY New Paltz is a dynamic unit which thrives on interdisciplinary collaboration on a vibrant Liberal Arts campus. Faculty and students work together to foster an environment that values teamwork and collaboration. The Division of Engineering Programs prides itself on providing students with a rigorous education including regular access to meaningful hands-on learning opportunities. The Mechanical Engineering Lab Lecturer is a valued member of our team who ensures that these opportunities happen in a clean, productive, and safe environment by teaching lab based coursework and supporting the efforts of the Engineering Lab Technician.
The Mechanical Engineering Lab Lecturer is responsible for:
  • Teaching lab-based coursework that supports primarily the Mechanical Engineering program and secondarily the other programs in the Division of Engineering Programs
  • Recruit, train, and support adjunct lecturers teaching sections of the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory courses.
  • Monitor and maintain the Mechanical Engineering laboratory spaces.
  • Coordinate with the Engineering Lab Technician to insure all Mechanical Engineering equipment remains calibrated and working properly.
  • Coordinate with the Engineering Lab Technician to insure that materials and replacement parts are ordered in a timely manner and maintain inventory.
  • Support faculty research projects.
  • Support faculty and students participating in the Capstone Experience..
  • Other duties as directed by the Chair of the Division of Engineering Programs.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will:
  • Hold a minimum of a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Be a motivated self-starter who can be productive with limited supervision
  • Be an effective communicator through a variety of modes (written, oral, etc.) and with diverse groups (faculty, students, other departments, etc.)

Preferred qualifications include:
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience.
