Salary range: The salary range for this position is $125,000 to $175,000. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation. The salary range listed is for base compensation only and may be adjusted depending on qualifications and experience. The salary range does not include variable compensation and is subject to the individual department compensation plan. Please note that eligibility for the Health Sciences Compensation Plan requires an FTE percentage greater than 50%.

Position description

The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis seeks innovative and highly motivated master's degree or doctorally prepared physician assistants and to join the faculty at UC Davis Health in Sacramento, California.

A dynamic team of interprofessional faculty focus on preparing entry-level physician assistants, especially for underserved areas. Nearly 60 percent of UC Davis physician assistant graduates work in primary care. Launched with a vision to advance health through leadership, the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis seeks physician assistant faculty to collaborate with faculty from multiple disciplines and further this vision to prepare clinicians who deliver care as members of health care teams. Faculty fully participate in the development of the school's high-impact and interprofessional programs. Physician assistant faculty provide a combination clinical teaching activities, including didactic instruction, clinical skills lab instruction, curriculum development and assessment, and coordination of course activities related to the didactic and clinical phases of the program.

Part-time and full-time, non-tenured positions at the Assistant and Associate rank in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) Series are available at UC Davis Health, which is located on a modern, 140-acre campus in Sacramento, California. The Sacramento campus is home to the School of Nursing, School of Medicine, UC Davis Medical Center (including a level-I trauma center and burn unit, and a full range of outpatient services), a fully accredited Children's Hospital, and an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Practice locations include UC Davis Health Medical Center, UC Davis department and primary care network clinics, Sacramento County clinics, local FQHCs and other clinical sites.

Physician assistant principal faculty provide instructional, assessment, advising, and programmatic support activities, including didactic instruction, clinical skills instruction, curriculum design and evaluation, student assessment, and coordination of course activities in the didactic and clinical phases of the program. Part-time and full-time, non-tenured positions at the Assistant and Associate rank in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) Series are available at UC Davis Health. A Principal Faculty member with an FTE appointment of greater than 0.5 participates in teaching, student advising, curriculum development, student assessment, admissions and program evaluation in accordance with ARC-PA Standards.

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include working under the direction of the Program Director and in collaboration with program faculty to ensure quality program curriculum, assessment and instruction in the didactic and clinical phases of the program. Duties include course management, teaching, skills labs, student advisement, and student formative and summative evaluation. Responsibilities may also include participation in student remediation, exam writing and analysis, program admissions, accreditation activities, and committee service essential to the functioning of the physician assistant program, the School of Nursing, and the University.

Faculty in this role are expected to engage in scholarship, service, and professional development to commensurate with the faculty series and assigned workload. For part-time appointments, responsibilities will be assigned in proportion to effort and documented workload.

Essential duties may include but are not limited to:
*Serve as the Instructor of Record (IOR) or Co-Instructor of Record (Co-IOR) for assigned courses, ensuring course quality and compliance with UC Davis University and School of Nursing program policies.
*Develop, implement, review, and revise course syllabi, course goals, measurable course learning outcomes, instructional objectives, learning activities, assessment methods, grading plans, and educational materials to support student learning and attainment of program competencies. Provide high-quality didactic, laboratory, simulation, and, as assigned, clinical instruction consistent with the program curriculum, course learning outcomes, and program competencies. Evaluate student academic and professional performance, provide timely formative and summative feedback, document performance concerns, and participate in student progression, remediation, and related review processes in accordance with program policies.
*Serve as a faculty advisor by providing academic counseling, mentoring, and guidance to support student success.
*Participate in the admissions process, including applicant review, interviews, and selection activities.
*Participate in the design, implementation, coordination, review, and continuous improvement of the curriculum.
*Participate in the development, review, and revision of the program curriculum, mission, goals, competencies, policies, and procedures.
*Participate in ongoing program self-assessment, evaluation, data review, and continuous quality improvement activities to support compliance with ARCPA Standards and program effectiveness.
*Serve on PA program, School of Nursing, and University committees, as assigned. *Collaborate with the Program Director, Medical Director and Principal Faculty to ensure compliance with ARC-PA Standards and institutional policies.
*Other duties as assigned

CRITERIA:
A candidate for appointment in the HSCP Series shall be evaluated by the following criteria, which shall be appropriately weighted according to the primary emphasis on clinical and clinically-relevant teaching and patient care services and also according to the needs of the school and the individual's responsibilities in the specific discipline. The four criteria are:

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

*Master's degree or Doctoral degree (e.g.,DMSc, EdD, PhD) is required.
* If the candidate is a PA, Graduation from an ARCPA accredited physician assistant/associate program and current NCCPA certification or NCCPA emeritus status are required.
* PA Candidates must have a minimum of two years of clinical experience as a licensed PA. .
* Must be comfortable in a highly interactive fast paced teaching/learning environment that includes collaborative teaching, significant faculty/student interaction, and strong clinical integration..
* Must be able to evaluate student performance in the didactic and clinical phases of the program using objective, documented assessment methods consistent with program policies.
* Must demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

Prior experience teaching in a PA program is desirable and five years working as a licensed PA is preferred.
