Position Summary:

Palmetto Propane is seeking a safety-minded and dependable individual to join our team as a Junior Service Apprentice. This entry-level position is designed for someone interested in learning a skilled trade and building a long-term career in the propane industry.
The Junior Service Apprentice will install and maintain propane tank monitoring equipment, perform cathodic protection testing on underground propane tanks, and assist experienced Service Technicians with installations, repairs, and maintenance. Training will be provided in propane safety, service procedures, equipment use, documentation, and customer service.
This position is the first step in Palmetto Propane's Service Technician career path. Employees who successfully complete assigned training and demonstrate strong performance, safety practices, technical knowledge, dependability, and professionalism may be considered for advancement to a Service Technician Apprentice position based on qualifications and business needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Install, inspect, and maintain propane and fuel tank monitoring equipment at residential and commercial customer locations.
  • Perform cathodic protection testing on underground propane tanks after completing required training.
  • Accurately record and submit inspection, installation, and testing documentation.
  • Assist Service Technicians with propane system installations, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance.
  • Safely operate company vehicles and complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and professional condition.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, coworkers, and management.
  • Follow all company safety policies, operating procedures, and required personal protective equipment practices.
  • Complete assigned company training, certifications, and continuing education.
  • Learn and follow procedures established under applicable OSHA, DOT, NFPA 54, NFPA 58, state, and federal requirements.
  • Represent Palmetto Propane professionally while working at customer locations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support department operations.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn a skilled trade.
  • Dependable work habits and a strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer and smartphone skills.
  • Ability to work independently following appropriate training.
  • Ability to successfully complete the company's pre-employment screening requirements.

No propane industry experience is required. We are looking for someone who is dependable, mechanically inclined, committed to working safely, and motivated to learn.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous work experience in constructions, HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, equipment maintenance, landscaping, utilities, or another mechanical trade is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The employee must be able to:
  • Regularly lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Bend, kneel, squat, crawl, reach, and climb ladders.
  • Walk and work on uneven or unstable terrain.
  • Enter and exit company vehicles throughout the workday.
  • Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other varying weather conditions.
  • Work full-time hours and occasional overtime based on business needs.
