Position Overview
The
Development Coordinator (DMV Area) plays a vital role in expanding MAUSA's community fundraising and donor engagement efforts within the greater New York and New Jersey region. This is an entry-level but high-visibility position, ideal for someone who is passionate about community organizing, public speaking, and building grassroots support for a global humanitarian mission.
The Development Coordinator will support regional fundraising events, masjid engagement, and volunteer activation-working independently while being supported by the Fundraising Director and CEO. The role requires strong communication, organizational skills, and comfort working in faith-based spaces.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Fundraising
- Represent MAUSA at community events, Friday khutbahs, fundraisers, conferences, and conventions
- Deliver Friday khutbahs regularly as a representative of MAUSA
- Drive brand awareness and community outreach across the DMV region
- Build and maintain relationships with local masajid, community leaders, volunteers, and small businesses
- Build relationships with local MSAs to grow our volunteer network
- Identify and cultivate connections with prospective and major donors
- Organize grassroots fundraising efforts (e.g. Iftar dinners, benefit nights, volunteer-led drives) in coordination with the Event Coordinator
- Deliver Islamic appeals and motivational presentations when appropriate
- Recruit, coordinate, and motivate local volunteers to support campaigns
- Represent MAUSA at 5-6 national conventions per year (e.g., ICNA, ISNA, MAS), coordinating logistics with the Event Coordinator
Event Support & Logistics
- Collaborate with the Event Coordinator and development team on outreach activities and event planning
- Support event execution by managing day-of responsibilities as needed, including setup, donor engagement, and follow-up
- Assist with booth presence at conventions and community events, including branded materials, tablets, and payment equipment
- Track donations collected and attendance at events, providing accurate records to the CRM system
- Support event debrief and follow-up communications with attendees and donors
Campaign Support & Promotion
- Promote MAUSA campaigns (Ramadan, Qurbani, Emergency Appeals, Winter Relief) across regional partners and online platforms
- Distribute flyers and promotional materials at high-traffic community locations
- Collaborate with the national marketing and fundraising teams on content, planning, and tracking
- Provide feedback and recommendations on regional fundraising strategies
General
- Provide weekly updates and reports on activities and progress
- Support peak fundraising seasons with flexible hours, travel, and weekend work (especially during Ramadan, Qurbani, and Winter campaigns)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Nonprofit Management, Islamic Studies, Marketing, or a related field preferred (equivalent experience may be considered)
Experience (1-3 years preferred):
- Community-based fundraising or outreach
- Organizing public events or campaigns
- Experience engaging faith-based audiences and donors
- Volunteer coordination and/or grassroots mobilization
- Public speaking in Islamic and community settings, including khutbahs or Islamic appeals
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong public speaking skills, including comfort with Islamic appeals, khatiras, or khutbahs
- Excellent interpersonal communication-warm, professional, and confident
- Reliable, self-motivated, and organized with attention to detail
- Tech-savvy; proficient in Google Workspace, CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), and social media
- Strong time management and ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to travel regionally (up to 80%) with occasional national travel
- Flexible schedule with availability on evenings and weekends
