Overview

Deriva Energy, a portfolio company of Brookfield Renewable U.S., who is a nationwide leader in sustainable energy provides wind, solar, resilient backup power, and managed energy services to over 1,000 projects across the U.S., with a total electric capacity of more than 5,100 megawatts of nonregulated renewable energy is seeking a Wind Technician, to be based in their Ironwood Wind Farm location.

Our Wind Technicians are a vital part of our organization, and we take pride in hiring and training the best in the industry. This is a full-time, permanent position with significant room for advancement. This is both the entry level and initial training level for the series. The hiring manager may elect to fill this position at the higher Wind Technician II Level dependent upon a candidate's skills and experience.

We are looking for a Wind Technician I or II to maintain all aspects of our turbines (e.g., electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc.).

The physical work location is at the Ironwood Wind: 12690 Eagle RD, Spearville, KS 67876.

Responsibilities

  • Always maintain a high level of safety awareness

  • Climb heights 300 ft. and greater several times daily

  • Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems

  • Perform troubleshooting to identify the root cause of an issue and perform corrective actions or open a service case with equipment manufacturer

  • Perform energy isolation in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures

  • Perform pad mounted Transformer switching in accordance with all Hazardous Energy Controls Procedures

  • Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines

  • Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance monitoring and evaluation

  • Maintaining all aspects (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) of turbines in a safe, high quality, and efficient manner

  • Maintain EH&S Documentation and complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary) within Maximo

  • Must pass a background check and drug test prior to hire

  • Safe Working Weight Requirement-This position contains a weight restriction of 265 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.

Basic Qualifications

Wind Technician - Level I

  • High School/GED

  • In addition to the High School/GED requirement, the ability to complete Level I job performance measures and training Deriva Energy renewables academy within 1 year

Wind Technician - Level II

  • High School/GED

  • External Candidates - In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (3+) years of related work experience. Must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I JPMs within the probationary period

  • Internal Candidates - In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (1+) year of technical experience with DerivaEnergy as a Wind Technician. Must also have Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator1 JPM Completed

Desired Qualifications

  • AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study

  • Experience with Siemens 2.3 ESS turbines

  • Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies

  • High voltage and substation maintenance experience

  • Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)

  • Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements

  • Competent with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems

  • Microsoft Office Including Excel/Word/PowerPoint

  • CPR and AED Training Certification

  • TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training

  • Forklift certified

Working Conditions

  • Valid Driver's License required

  • Any travel to projects

  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards

  • Exposure to noisy, dusty conditions, chemicals, or solvents

  • Operate equipment including but not limited to forklifts and commercial motor vehicles

  • Ability to climb and work on turbine towers with heights up to 400 ft. daily

  • Ability to lift 75lbs individually

  • Walking, Climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds

  • Working in all-weather outdoor conditions (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow)

  • Completion of OEM or third-party technical specialty training program
