Legal Counsel Description

Department: Legal
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Location: Sunnyvale, CA (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)

About Arc Games Inc.

Arc Games, Inc. is a video game publisher based in the Bay Area, with titles including Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, and Perfect World International. We work closely with our development studio partners to bring beloved game worlds to players around the globe, operating across multiple international entities and jurisdictions.

The Role

Arc Games is looking for a Legal Counsel to serve as the day-to-day legal go-to resource across the company. This is a junior-level role - open to recent law graduates - and is well suited to someone early in their legal career who wants hands-on exposure to how legal processes function inside a game publisher, without the pressure of being the final word on complex litigation or high-stakes negotiations.

You won't be expected to be a seasoned litigator or a master contract negotiator. What matters most is that you're sharp, curious, detail-oriented, and know your limits - including when to elevate a question to outside counsel or company leadership rather than trying to resolve it solo.

What You'll Do
  • Act as the first point of contact for everyday legal questions across the company, resolving issues and providing practical, accurate guidance.
  • Review routine contracts, vendor agreements, and internal requests, understanding when something falls within your judgment and when it needs to be escalated - and to whom.
  • Support and understand internal approval workflows, including review gates, budget reviews, and signature/execution processes, to help keep deals and requests moving efficiently.
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully and effectively as part of your legal work - for research, drafting support, and document review - while understanding their limitations and knowing when human judgment or escalation is required.
  • Apply a working knowledge of the games industry (platforms, publishing models, player-facing terms, live services) to make legal guidance relevant and practical for the business.
  • Maintain organized records of contracts, approvals, and legal correspondence.
  • Partner with People Operations, Finance, and other teams on routine legal matters as they arise.
What We're Looking For
  • Juris Doctor is required. Bar admission is not required for this role.
  • Genuine familiarity with and interest in video games - you understand the gaming industry works, not just that it exists.
  • Comfortable using AI tools as part of daily legal work, with sound judgment about their appropriate use and limitations.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good judgment about scope - you know what you can competently handle and you're not afraid to flag when something needs to go to outside counsel or leadership.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to quickly learn, standard corporate approval processes (review gates, budget sign-off, execution/signing procedures).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to explain legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers.
  • Entry-level candidates are welcome to apply - prior in-house experience is a plus but not required.
Compensation

The salary range for this role is $105,000 - $140,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Final offer will be based on a range of factors including relevant experience and skills. This range reflects base salary only; total compensation may also include equity and benefits.

Equal Opportunity Employer

Arc Games, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
