Description
The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is a people focused, award-winning, full-service consulting firm that offers a wide array of services including civil and geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, planning, landscape architecture, agriculture, surveying and construction support. Our talented staff of more than 650+ professionals deliver integrated planning, design, engineering and construction solutions.
We are seeking an Entry-Level Transportation Engineer to support the design and development of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer interested in hands-on design work, plan production, and collaboration with experienced transportation professionals on projects that serve public agencies and communities. This role is based out of our Columbus, OH office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the design of roadway and highway projects, including horizontal and vertical alignments, typical sections, and grading plans
  • Support preparation of construction documents such as plan sets, profiles, cross-sections, and details
  • Perform engineering calculations related to roadway geometry, drainage, pavement design, and quantities
  • Assist with development of project specifications, cost estimates, and quantity take-offs
  • Apply state and local DOT design standards, manuals, and specifications to project work
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil/site, drainage, structures, utilities, and survey
    Participate in design reviews and incorporate redlines and comments from senior engineers
  • Assist with field visits and construction support activities as needed
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation in accordance with company standards


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Internship or co-op experience in roadway or transportation design preferred
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of OpenRoads ORD design software is a plus
  • Understanding of basic roadway design principles and civil engineering fundamentals
  • Ability to follow established design standards and work under supervision
