Job description

Summary
The entry-level laborer has limited or no experience in commercial concrete construction yet brings an excellent attitude with a willingness to learn, work hard, and improve their skills. This role supports all functions of commercial concrete projects through housekeeping, toting materials, setting formwork, shoring, and placing concrete. Entry-level laborers are exposed to several main types of commercial concrete work, including sub-structures, elevated structures, parking ramps, and tilt, to name a few. These structures allow the entry-level laborer to understand footings, mass footings, walls, columns, shoring, decking, formwork systems, gang forms, reinforcing, and post-tension systems. Communicating effectively with supervisors, teammates, and other trades is expected as well as asking questions to increase growth and development.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely perform general labor tasks on concrete construction sites, including using power and common hand tools.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including a hard hat, high-visibility apparel, and additional protection as required by the task.
  • Moving materials by hand, preparing for concrete placement, installation of shoring, and maintaining clean, well-organized job sites.
  • Work in a variable environment, both indoors and outdoors. When required, work during inclement weather, including extreme heat/cold.
  • Communicate effectively with your crew lead, foreman, and superintendent on safety, ask questions, and problem-solve.

Required Experience, Education, and Qualifications

Work Environment/Physical Demand
This position works in a typical construction site environment. This position requires long periods of standing and should be able to lift 80 pounds.

Position type and expected hours of work.
This is a full-time field position. Typical hours will range from 45-50 hours per week and are subject to change. This role requires working nontypical days and irregular hours based on construction schedules.

Travel
This position reports directly to each job site and requires personal transportation. Job sites beyond a 30-mile radius of the main office are eligible for mileage reimbursement at the current federal rate. Additionally, for projects requiring a commute longer than 90 miles from the main office, employees are eligible for per diem, the amount of which will be determined by the project.
