Job Summary

The Draftsperson supports the creation, maintenance, and release of CAD models and engineering drawings for custom parts and assemblies. This entry-level role works closely with engineering, configuration management, document control, and quality teams to ensure accurate documentation throughout the product lifecycle. The position provides hands-on exposure to product design, drafting standards, configuration control, and data management processes within a manufacturing environment.

The primary purposes of this role are to:

  1. Support the timely creation and release of CAD models and drawings to meet project and production schedules.
  2. Assist in maintaining accurate and current design data to support continuous improvement and cost-effective product realization.
  3. Contribute to internal data and document management processes that integrate design and manufacturing activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and update 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for parts and assemblies under the guidance of senior draftspersons, engineers or designers
  • Collaborate with design engineering, manufacturing engineering, and other cross-functional teams during product development and engineering change activities
  • Communicate effectively with production, quality, inspection, procurement, document control, and change management teams
  • Review existing legacy models and drawings and assist in updating them to current standards and configurations
  • Apply and learn industry-recognized modeling and drafting practices, including company standards and templates
  • Revise parts, assemblies, and fabrication documentation following approved Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
  • Support data management and configuration control activities, including:
    • Part and document numbering
    • Revision and configuration management
    • Drawing release processes
    • Management of external (vendor and customer) files
    • Interaction with other systems such as MRP/ERP where applicable
  • Maintain organized, accurate design documentation to support manufacturing and customer satisfaction

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field OR equivalent combination of education and internship/co-op experience
  • Entry-level candidates encouraged to apply; prior internship, co-op, or academic project experience is a plus

Technical Skills

  • Experience with parametric CAD software, such as:
    • PTC Creo
    • Autodesk (Inventor or Fusion 360)
    • Siemens Solid Edge
    • SolidWorks or comparable parametric modeling program
  • Exposure to or understanding of Product Data Management (PDM) systems preferred, but not required
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawing standards, including ASME Y14.1
  • Familiarity with Design Release Management (DRM) concepts or willingness to learn
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
