Job description


Kelly is looking for an entry level Piping Designer to join an engineering team within a leading petrochemical company in the Houston, Texas area! This role is critical in delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective piping designs for industrial facilities in the petrochemical sector.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and revise piping designs using 2D and 3D CAD tools (e.g., MicroStation, SmartPlant 3D).
  • Prepare piping layouts, isometric drawings, bills of materials, and support details.
  • Interpret P&IDs, piping specifications, and engineering drawings accurately.
  • Coordinate with engineers and designers to maintain design consistency and compliance.
  • Ensure designs meet all applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Participate in model reviews, providing input to improve constructability and maintainability.
  • Provide solutions to complex design challenges and review work produced by other designers.
  • Act as a resource for projects and construction teams, assisting with field issue resolution. Coach and mentor less experienced designers as needed.

Qualifications
  • Education: Associate degree or technical diploma in drafting/design OR High School diploma with 2-5 years of piping design experience.
  • Proficiency in CAD software SmartPlant 3D/SP3D and Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
  • Understanding of piping systems, materials, and fabrication methods.
  • Familiarity with ASME, ANSI, API, and other relevant codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with laser scanning and point cloud integration.
  • Knowledge of pipe stress analysis and support design.
  • Understanding of project lifecycle and construction practices.
