Job description

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY: Create cost effective design layouts, models, and drawings that meet all customer requirements. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Create layouts, models and drawings to support production.
  • Provide support to engineers for design of basic shelters and mechanical and electrical modifications including rack installations, ECU installations, entry panel installations, lighting, power distribution and other ancillary items.
  • Attend job kick-off meetings and participate in design reviews with customers as required.
  • Review and understand customer specifications and Statements of Work, including Technical Data Package requirements for the program.
  • Follow all CAD standards and procedures used by Gichner Shelter Systems.
  • Meet CAD schedules and budgets.
  • Provide support to CAD Operators.
  • Review drawings for design.
  • Follow configuration requirements for documentation control.
  • Interface with other departments to support the project.
  • Contribute to product improvement, standardization, and department improvement projects.
  • Assist in providing CAD estimates as required.
  • Resolves problems that are diversified and complex.
  • Requires adapting methodology used when situation is not covered by established practice.
  • Shows expertise in one or two areas and demonstrate "out-of-box" creativity.
  • Requires considerable judgment in compiling facts and making decisions where recognized practice is inadequate for the situation.
  • Generally, sets own priorities; keeps manager informed.
  • Regularly takes initiative to solve problems and organize projects.
  • May provide work leadership and training to lower-level designers and operators.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards.
  • Ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisors.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary.
  • Ability to adhere to workplace rules.
  • Advanced knowledge of Gichner products.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 2 years technical training, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years' CAD design experience.
  • 3D modeling experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Office environment.
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key, phones).
  • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
