Job description
The Role
The Director, Enterprise Project Management Office leads and continuously advances Plexus' enterprise PMO, creating the governance, discipline, visibility, and accountability needed to successfully execute strategic initiatives across the organization.
This leader oversees a portfolio of complex, cross-functional initiatives spanning physical and digital products, technology, operations, and enterprise programs. The Director partners closely with senior leaders to align priorities, manage risk and change, drive timely decisions, and improve execution while leading and developing a high-performing team of Project Managers.
This role is ideal for a seasoned PMO leader who can balance enterprise strategy with disciplined execution and has demonstrated success building and maturing an Enterprise Project Management Office.
Employee Value Proposition
This is an opportunity to shape and mature the Enterprise Project Management Office while working across virtually every area of the business. The Director will have significant visibility with senior leadership and the ability to build the team, processes, governance, and tools that improve how Plexus executes its most important initiatives.
For a leader who enjoys building, improving, and developing others, this role provides meaningful opportunity for career growth and enterprise-wide impact.
Key Performance Objectives
- Build trusted partnerships with senior leaders and key stakeholders, demonstrated through strong engagement, alignment, and positive feedback on the PMO's value and effectiveness.
- Improve enterprise project execution and predictability by establishing measurable standards for project phases, cycle times, milestones, scope, risks, dependencies, and change management.
- Increase adoption and adherence to PMO governance and processes, creating consistent execution and accountability across enterprise initiatives.
- Build a high-performing PMO team capable of effectively leading complex, cross-functional initiatives and influencing outcomes across the organization.
Performance Accountabilities
- PMO Leadership & Governance: Lead and continuously mature the Enterprise PMO, establishing scalable governance, methodologies, processes, tools, standards, and best practices.
- Portfolio Management: Provide oversight for high-visibility initiatives across physical and digital products, technology, operations, and strategic business programs, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities, capacity, and expected business value.
- Execution Excellence: Establish disciplined project lifecycle practices from intake and prioritization through planning, execution, change control, measurement, escalation, and closure.
- Executive Partnership: Serve as a trusted advisor to executive sponsors and functional leaders, facilitating alignment, surfacing tradeoffs, and driving timely decisions and accountability.
- Risk & Change Management: Establish consistent practices for identifying and managing project risks, dependencies, resource constraints, scope changes, and organizational change requirements.
- Performance Measurement: Develop meaningful project and portfolio metrics and dashboards that provide leadership with actionable visibility into project health, timelines, capacity, risks, and outcomes.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, and improve project management processes and enterprise workflows.
- Methodology: Ensure appropriate use of Waterfall, Agile, and hybrid methodologies based on business needs, complexity, risk, and desired outcomes.
- Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Project Managers, strengthening capabilities in execution, stakeholder management, communication, problem-solving, and accountability.
- Cross-Functional Influence: Build strong relationships across the organization and influence without direct authority to resolve competing priorities and move complex initiatives forward.
- Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as business needs require.
Performance Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Project Management, or a related field.
- 8+ years of progressive project, program, portfolio, or product management experience, including experience leading complex enterprise initiatives.
- 3+ years of people leadership experience at the Manager level or above.
- PMP certification required.
- Demonstrated experience building, leading, or significantly maturing an Enterprise PMO, including governance, portfolio management, project lifecycle standards, and performance measurement.
- Proven ability to partner with senior leaders, influence without authority, navigate competing priorities, and drive decisions across functions.
- Strong knowledge of Waterfall, Agile, and hybrid project management methodologies.
- Demonstrated success managing scope, risk, dependencies, organizational change, and multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex project information into clear recommendations and executive-level reporting.
