Job Description

Summary:

The Project Engineering Supervisor is responsible for leading and supervising a group of Project Engineers, and Engineering Interns through the product design and design verification activities for new product development, sustaining engineering, and research and development programs. This position will assist in the assignment of engineers to specific design activities, ensure that their specific responsibilities are clearly defined, and monitor the progress of activities to ensure adherence to schedules and budgets. Additionally, along with the Director of Product Engineering, the position will be responsible for ensuring the execution of internal departmental process improvement goals within the Engineering organization. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will have direct-reports, Project Engineers and Engineering Interns, within the department and will assign activities ensuring that their responsibilities are clearly defined and monitoring the progress of activities to ensure adherence to schedules.

  • Leads the design team during all phases of the development process by providing value engineering evaluation, providing direction & guidance to the design professionals, and developing/monitoring open issues.
  • Provide technical leadership of New Product Development programs with the internal IPDT (Integrated Product Development Team; i.e. design engineers, design drafters, manufacturing engineering, test lab technicians, program managers, etc.) and external customer.
  • Stimulates generation of technical ideas and concepts; recommends engineering activities and investigation of technical areas which hold potential for benefitting the department; maintains surveillance of the overall technical effort to assure that it produces timely results which are profitable to the company.
  • Recruit employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
  • Sets employee goals and manages achievements. Develops employees through mentoring, and assigning specific work to enhance employee technical and personal growth. Responsible for the performance/merit reviews (min annual) of the employees.
  • Identifies areas for improvement in work group processes and drive resolutions to improve methodologies and techniques. Works with peers to establish best practices to be enacted across the IPT. Monitors progress and adapts tactics to resolve unexpected project complications.
  • Perform administrative functions to support the working team such as reviewing and writing reports, performing analysis, reviewing and releasing drawings, monitoring testing activities, etc.
  • Keeps abreast of engineering development in the industry; investigates new ideas in the department's field of interest to determine their value to or effect upon the department.
  • Serve as back up for the Director of Product Engineering during absences or business travel.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Supervises the Project Engineering team, including interns and any applicable contract engineers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering. M.S. preferred. 
  • Minimum five (5) years of aerospace engineering experience or related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience managing projects and leading teams; experience leading a team of diverse individuals toward a common objective; experience mentoring and guiding engineers.
  • Prior experience in aerospace mechanical systems engineering.
  • Prior experience with AS9145 / APQP Project Planning and Product Design & Development phases.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with aircraft fluid systems
  • Prior experience with all AS9145 / APQP / PPAP Product Lifecycle phases
  • Prior experience with managing and fulfilling product certification requirements (e.g: FAA, EASA, Transport Canada, CAAC, etc.).
  • Prior experience with metal manufacturing/forming processes.

Annual Target Salary = $135,000.00
