Job Title: Project Engineer/Project Manager I
Location: Ecorse, MI (Detroit Metro Area)
Hire Type: Direct Hire
Salary: $80,000 - $125,000

Sterling Engineering is partnered with a leading industrial manufacturing organization seeking a Project Engineer / Project Manager I to support capital improvement and cost reduction initiatives within a large-scale manufacturing facility.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical expertise and project management support for capital and cost improvement projects, working closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, accounting, and outside contractors to improve plant infrastructure, safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage capital and cost improvement projects from concept through implementation.
  • Develop business cases, project scopes, schedules, budgets, and cost estimates.
  • Provide technical support to operations and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety and environmental programs for employees and contractors.
  • Evaluate and select equipment, technologies, and engineering solutions to support plant objectives.
  • Coordinate with Accounting and Tax departments on project funding approvals.
  • Prepare capital appropriation and expenditure requests for management review.
  • Direct outside engineering firms, consultants, contractors, and equipment suppliers.
  • Review equipment and contractor proposals and make recommendations for selection.
  • Monitor equipment fabrication, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Manage projects during facility outages and construction schedules, including off-shift support when required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related scientific discipline required.
  • 3-5 years of engineering, project engineering, project management, maintenance, or manufacturing experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Oracle software is preferred.
  • Capital project management experience, maintenance outage management, or continuous improvement project experience is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
