The Civil Engineering Technician supports engineering project leaders by performing drafting and
design using AutoCAD Civil 3D. This position is also responsible for preparing construction plans and
specifications for a variety of municipal and private development projects including street design,
sanitary collection, water distribution, grading, erosion control and stormwater management plans. This
position may occasionally participate and conduct construction site observations as well.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Drafting and Design: Utilize AutoCAD, Civil 3D to prepare detailed construction plans, profiles, cross-sections, and structural details.
  • Plan Generation: Develop comprehensive plan sets, including grading, utility, drainage, and erosion control plans.
  • Data Integration: Import and manipulate GIS data, topographic surveys, and laser scanning data into CAD software.
  • Permit Preparation: Coordinate and compile technical permit application packages for local, state, and federal agencies (e.g., stormwater management, utility connections, right-of-way, and environmental permits). Monitor permit statuses, address review comments from agency engineers, and ensure designs comply with local municipal codes and zoning ordinances.
  • Coordination Meetings: Attend construction coordination and pre-submittal meetings with local municipalities and regulatory authorities to review project plans, clarify design intent, and expedite approvals.
  • Design Support: Assist engineers with routine calculations (e.g., earthwork volumes, pipe sizing, material take-offs) and ensure designs meet local agency standards.
  • Quality Control: Perform self-checks and quality reviews of drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company drafting standards.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to meet project deadlines and resolve design challenges.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D is highly preferred. Experience with Bluebeam Revu, ArcGIS is a plus.
2. Solid understanding of civil engineering concepts, drafting conventions, and construction terminology.
3. Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to producing clean, organized, and accurate technical drawings.
4. Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective team collaboration.
5. Ability to work well independently and on a team
Education and Experience:
1. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
2. Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, or a related field is preferred.
3. Minimum of one year experience in engineering, field surveying or construction inspection is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
1. This position requires sitting at a desk and working at a computer for long period of time
2. Some work may include field work
3. This position requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
