What is an Endowed Chair?

An Endowed Chair is a prestigious faculty position at a college or university that is funded by the revenue from an endowment, typically donated by individuals, organizations, or foundations. The endowment provides ongoing financial support for the chairholder’s salary, research, teaching, or other academic activities. This position recognizes distinguished scholars or educators and helps the institution attract or retain top talent. Endowed Chairs often carry the donor’s name and signify a high level of respect and achievement in the academic community.
