What is an end tech?

End Techs, short for Endoscopy Technicians, are healthcare professionals who assist doctors and nurses during endoscopic procedures. Their responsibilities include preparing and maintaining endoscopy equipment, ensuring proper sterilization, and supporting the medical team throughout procedures. They often help in patient preparation and recovery, handle specimens, and follow strict safety protocols to ensure a sterile environment. End Techs play a vital role in the smooth and safe operation of endoscopy suites, contributing to positive patient outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an end tech?

To thrive as an Endoscopy Technician, you need knowledge of gastrointestinal procedures, sterile technique, and medical terminology, typically supported by a high school diploma and completion of an accredited endoscopy tech program or relevant certification. Familiarity with endoscopy systems, scopes, sterilization equipment, and electronic health record (EHR) systems is essential. Attention to detail, teamwork, and strong communication skills help ensure patient safety and smooth procedural flow. These skills and qualities are crucial for maintaining high standards of care, supporting physicians, and minimizing infection risks during endoscopic procedures.
