About The Role: 

ELM Utility Services is a leading underground utility locating company with over 1,700 employees nationwide. As we continue to grow, we're looking for an Onboarding Specialist to join our Human Resources team at our Peoria, Illinois headquarters.

This is a great opportunity for someone with strong administrative skills who's ready to build a career in human resources. You'll play a key role in supporting our hiring process from managing personnel files to processing new employee onboarding in a fast-paced environment where accuracy and good judgment matter.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

What You'll Do:
  • Verify that all hiring information received is accurate and complete
  • Confirm new employees' eligibility to work through E-Verify
  • Support internal and external audits or testing as needed
  • Manage and maintain personnel employment files
  • Accurately enter data into internal databases, including our HRIS system
  • Scan and file documents as part of our ongoing shift to a fully digital filing system
  • Prioritize and manage time-sensitive requests
  • Keep management informed on candidate status and screening results
  • Order pre-employment screenings (background checks, drug screens, and motor vehicle record checks)
  • Support other HR and company needs as they arise
What We're Looking For:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous administrative or customer service experience required
  • HR experience or a related degree is a plus
  • Strong typing and data entry skills with excellent attention to detail
  • A professional demeanor and commitment to confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
