A respected AmLaw 100 firm is seeking an Employee Benefits Associate Attorney to join its Cleveland or Cincinnati office. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney looking to work on sophisticated ERISA, employee benefits, and executive compensation matters within a collaborative national platform serving employers, plan sponsors, and business clients across a broad range of industries.

The firm is seeking a team-oriented associate with strong employee benefits experience who is interested in handling complex benefits and compensation matters while working closely with clients and attorneys across multiple practice areas.

The Role

Associates in this position may work on matters involving:

  • Defined contribution plans
  • Defined benefit plans
  • Employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs)
  • Employee welfare benefit plans
  • Executive compensation arrangements
  • ERISA compliance and advisory matters
  • Employee benefits support for mergers & acquisitions
  • Tax and regulatory matters related to employee benefit plans

Responsibilities may include:

  • Designing and drafting employee benefit plans and related documents
  • Advising clients on ERISA and tax compliance matters
  • Assisting with executive compensation programs and deferred compensation arrangements
  • Supporting transactional teams on employee benefits aspects of M&A matters
  • Providing day-to-day counseling to employers and plan sponsors
Ideal Background
  • 3+ years of ERISA, employee benefits, and/or executive compensation experience
  • Broad understanding of ERISA, tax, and related employee benefits laws
  • Strong oral, written, research, and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school with strong academic credentials
  • Ohio Bar admission required or ability to waive in
