Job description

The EMI/EMC Test Technicianย is responsible forย ensuring our hardware and systems meet electromagnetic compatibility requirements at ourย state-of-the-artย test facility in St. Albans, VT. As an EMI/EMC Test Technician at Beta Technologies, you will use your hands-on technical aptitude to set up, execute, and document electromagnetic interference and compatibility tests onย aircraftย systems, avionics, and electrical components. Testing is performed to standards including DO-160 and MIL-STD-461. An ideal candidate has great attention to detail when following defined test procedures, experience with RF measurement equipment, and the drive and motivation to see things through to completion no matter the challenge.ย 
ย 
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
  • Perform electromagnetic compatibility and environmental testing per DO-160, MIL-STD-461, and other applicable standards, including but not limited to conducted/radiated emissions and susceptibility, indirect lightning, and voltage spikeย 
  • Set up and configure test equipment including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, amplifiers, antennas, LISNs, current probes, oscilloscopes, and VNAsย 
  • Fabricate andย maintainย test fixtures, cable harnesses, and interconnect assemblies for EMI/EMC testingย 
  • Operate andย maintainย semi-anechoic chambers and reverberation chambersย 
  • Document test results with rigor, including photographs, data captures, and detailed test reportsย 
  • Troubleshoot test setups and equipment independently,ย identifyingย and resolving issues to keep testing on scheduleย 
  • Maintain and improve test equipment for both internally developed and externallyย purchasedย toolsย 
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of EMI/EMC test procedures and processesย 
  • Support design teams with EMI mitigation strategies and troubleshooting investigationsย 
  • Look out for your teammates andย maintainย a safe, positive, and efficient work environmentย 
  • Use all mandated safety equipment andย comply withย all safety requirementsย in accordance withย company and government regulations and guidelinesย 
  • Perform other work-related duties as assignedย 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two-year engineering degree or certificate from an accredited college, university, or technical school, or minimum 2ย yearsย work experience in EMI/EMC testing or a related technical fieldย 
  • 1+ years of experience performing EMI/EMC or related electronics testingย 
  • Familiarity with RF measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, amplifiers, and antennasย 
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and schematics of electronic components and systemsย 
  • Ability to fabricate test fixtures, cable harnesses, or electro-mechanical assembliesย 
  • Passionate about continuous improvement and driven to continually learn, develop, and adaptย 
  • Ability toย assistย in problem analysis and independent decision-makingย 
  • Good team communication skillsย requiredย 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Applications (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)ย 
Above and Beyond Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of DO-160 and/or MIL-STD-461 standardsย 
  • Experience working in a semi-anechoic chamber or shielded room environmentย 
  • Experience with reverberation chamber testingย 
  • Python or similar programming/scripting experience for test automationย 
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) experienceย 
  • Experience with flight hardware or aerospace environmental testingย 
  • Experience working with high-power equipment and high-voltage systems (400V-800V+)ย 
  • Familiarity with lab accreditation processes (e.g., A2LA, ISO 17025)ย 
  • Aerospace design verification experience, especially compliance test experienceย 
  • Experience creating orย maintainingย EMC test software and automation toolsย 
  • Ability to useย TILE!,ย EMC32, ELEKTRA, BAT-EMC, or similar test automation and instrument control softwareย 
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders and/or stairsย 
  • Ability to position self for inspection including confined, elevated, and loud noise spacesย
