Job Description

Rockwell Automation is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Shared Services team. You will work on our existing and next-generation industrial control products. These products include Programmable Logic Controllers, I/O Products, Communication and HMI devices. You will play a role in all phases of product development including requirements definition, project planning, execution, product verification and validation, and release to production. You will work with a global team comprised of engineers across multiple disciplines, project managers, product marketing, manufacturing and quality organizations to bring our product roadmaps to life.

You will report to the Mechanical Team Lead and have a hybrid schedule working in Mayfield Heights, OH.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Drive mechanical design decisions for assigned projects, balancing performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Create conceptual product and part designs based on product requirements.
  • Create detailed designs for parts, assemblies, and drawings using PTC Creo.
  • Perform design analysis, such as tolerance stacks, empirical testing, and FEA simulation to validate concepts.
  • Lead discussions with vendors to make manufacturable, cost-effective designs.
  • Lead mechanical performance testing for the product, primarily in the area of shock and vibration. Schedule, direct, and interpret results and verify mechanical compliance to standards.
  • Provide input to other design engineers through design reviews and mentorship.
  • Work within the Agile framework and use Jira
The Essentials - You Will Have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
  • B.S in Mechanical Engineering
  • Typically requires 5+ years of mechanical design experience
  • Experience with electronics package design, particularly industrial devices
  • Demonstrated skill designing parts for a variety of manufacturing processes, such as injection molding, casting, metal stamping, machining
  • Two years' experience using PTC Creo or equivalent CAD software package
  • Experience with Enterprise Product Data Management (EPDM) systems, such as SAP or Windchill
  • Experience with Design for Six Sigma tools
