Job description

Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer

Job Description

This role focuses on planning, managing, and coordinating engineering design work for electrical loads and electromechanical products, with a strong emphasis on new product development in the power systems and load bank space. You will collaborate closely with Sales, Project Management, Assembly, Procurement, and field technicians to develop cost-effective, manufacturable designs that meet customer requirements, while supporting technical proposals, documentation, and product testing.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and coordinate engineering design work requiring the application of standard electrical engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for electrical loads.
  • Assist Sales in preparing technical proposals and pricing for engineered orders related to power systems and load banks.
  • Support Sales in making sales calls and customer contacts to understand requirements and present technical solutions.
  • Interpret customer-supplied specifications, drawings, and one-line diagrams to develop engineering solutions and accurate cost estimates.
  • Design and develop products that provide the best balance of cost and performance for electrical and electromechanical applications.
  • Manage design packages and coordinate their handoff to the Drafting department to ensure accurate and complete documentation.
  • Generate test procedures and product manuals required for proper installation, operation, and maintenance of the equipment.
  • Work closely with Assembly, Procurement, and field technicians during build, test, and startup phases to resolve technical issues and ensure successful implementation.
  • Coordinate engineering responses and action plans to address project challenges, customer feedback, and design changes.
  • Work as part of a project team to deliver cost-effective, manufacturable designs aligned with customer requirements and project objectives.
  • Support the maintenance of engineering documentation through established engineering change procedures.
  • Provide regular updates on project status, progress, and timeline for completion to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to application development activities, dedicating a significant portion of time to engineering applications and solutions.
  • Engage in customer-facing activities, including technical discussions and project coordination, in collaboration with project management.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience in project management within an engineering or industrial environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience providing customer service or customer-facing technical support.
  • At least 3 years of experience developing and creating new products in the electromechanical products space.
  • Experience working with industrial equipment and related electrical systems.
  • Knowledge and practical experience working with ERP systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and one-line diagrams for solution development and cost estimation.
  • Strong skills in electrical design and electromechanical design for power-related applications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in new product development, including concept creation, design, and introduction to manufacturing.
  • Exposure to AI applications in engineering, product development, or power systems analysis.
  • Experience with OEM electrical design activities, preferably in power design, generation, distribution, or protection.
  • Experience in areas such as power conversion, electrical systems, switchgear, utility power, electrical construction, substations, and generators.
  • Experience designing in the electrical testing space, including load banks and related test equipment.
  • Experience with new product introduction processes in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with standby power and UPS testing markets, including resistive and reactive load banks.
  • Ability to develop test procedures and manuals for complex electrical and electromechanical products.
  • Comfort working in a customer-facing capacity for approximately one-quarter of the role, alongside project management activities.

Work Environment

The role is based in a newly renovated office located close to the manufacturing facility, providing convenient access to production, assembly, and testing operations. You will work as part of a collaborative project team focused on delivering cost-effective, manufacturable designs aligned with customer requirements. The environment supports a mix of application development work (approximately 60–75% of your time) and customer-facing activities (around 25% of your time) in partnership with project management.
