Job Description

This Electrical Engineer role focuses on designing and developing cable and electrical system solutions that meet rigorous safety, quality, functional, and manufacturability requirements. You will translate complex system requirements into detailed cable designs, ensure adherence to established design standards and guidelines, and clearly communicate design intent to designers and drafters. The position involves close collaboration with coworkers, customers, and suppliers, participation in design reviews, and mentoring others, while supporting system engineering documentation and managing project status, timelines, and costs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop cable and electrical system designs that comply with design standards, guidelines, and all relevant requirements including safety, quality, functionality, materials, manufacturability, testing, time, and cost.
  • Interpret system requirements from stakeholders and translate them into detailed cable and wiring solutions.
  • Clearly communicate design intent and technical details to designers, drafters, and other engineering team members.
  • Review engineering documents, drawings, and specifications for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to standards.
  • Conduct and actively participate in peer reviews of designs, both internally and with customers, providing constructive feedback and technical guidance.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers, designers, and drafters in cable design practices, tools, and standards.
  • Support system engineering documentation needs, including Interface Control Documents (ICD), Government Furnished Information (GFI), and Level 1 and Level 2 diagrams.
  • Estimate effort, schedule, and resource needs for assigned tasks and projects, and provide regular status updates.
  • Identify, communicate, and work through issues related to safety, quality, tasks, timelines, people resources and delegation, and costs.
  • Maintain and communicate status for all active projects, ensuring stakeholders remain informed on progress and risks.
  • Collaborate effectively with coworkers, contractors, and customers to achieve project goals and align with organizational objectives.
  • Maintain a strong customer focus while meeting schedules and delivering high-quality engineering outputs.

Essential Skills

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a strong customer and client focus while meeting schedules and deliverable commitments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, including with coworkers, contractors, and customers.
  • Understanding of organizational goals and objectives and how engineering work supports them.
  • Capability to review technical documents for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to standards.
  • Experience conducting and participating in peer reviews of designs, both internal and customer-facing.
  • Ability to mentor and guide others in engineering practices, tools, and processes.
  • Experience supporting system engineering documentation such as ICDs, GFI, and Level 1 and Level 2 diagrams.
  • Skill in estimating, tracking, and communicating status for tasks and projects, including safety, quality, timelines, resources, and costs.
  • Willingness to self-develop and maintain additional skills required to perform the position effectively.
  • Proficiency with engineering and documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Experience in electrical design, including wiring, cables, and wiring diagrams.
  • Creo design skills, particularly in electrical and cabling design.
  • Experience as an Electrical Design Engineer or Cable Engineer, with 3–5+ years of relevant experience in cable and wiring design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, preferably in Electrical Engineering, or at least 4 years of experience in the design of cables and wire harnesses.
  • Experience designing wiring, cables, and wire harnesses for complex systems.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks Electrical or Creo Cable is desired but not required.
  • Experience using CREO Cabling and CREO Schematic is highly valued and considered a strong bonus.
