Job description

EHS Environmental Engineer 
The Environmental Engineer's main responsibility is to implement and manage environmental programs incompliance with local, state and federal regulations. This role will also be responsible for Industrial Hygiene testing and reporting. This position will also have a significant focus in supporting and implementing sustainability programs and initiatives in support of the Company's overall goals in reducing energy intensity, GHG emissions, water consumption and waste generation.

Today Ducommun is a global provider of innovative manufacturing solutions for customers in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission-critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications. 

This position will be based in Orange, CA and will support multiple CA locations as well as enterprise-wide environmental and sustainability responsibilities.

Environmental Management & Sustainability Responsibilities: 

  • Implement, manage and oversee environmental programs ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Track and analyze environmental usage related to energy, GHG, water and waste using ESG software program
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and programs that will help the Company in achieving overall goals for environmental and sustainability impact.
  • Identify and support Key Performance Indicators that are critical for tracking and managing environmental and sustainability goals.
  • Partner with each Performance Center (PC) Operational Site in communicating environmental footprint; aligning to PC environmental / sustainability goals;
  • Risk Assessments and Analysis in support of environmental and sustainability goals including action and resolution plans
  • Maintain environmental excel spreadsheets such as VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and paint usage logs for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting
  • Collect samples for SWPPP, Hazwaste and Industrial wastewater
  • Coordinate with such agencies as the South Air Quality Management District, Environmental Protection Agency, Sanitation Districts, Fire Departments, both State and County Health Agencies, Department of Toxic Substance, Cal OSHA, Cal EPA, 
  • Prepare, review, and submit AER (Annual Emission Reports), TRI (Toxic Release Inventory), SAM (Semi-Annual Monitoring) and review quarterly industrial wastewater surcharge report

EH&S Facilitation, Administration and Site Management Responsibilities: 

  • Provide support to Regional EHS Manager or Corporate EHS / ESG Leader
  • Lead incident investigation and root cause correction action processes
  • Responsible for creating, updating, and implementing safety plan and procedures as needed
  • Provide facility management team with guidance on environmental health and safety and confirm that projects fulfill industry, local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations
  • Coordinate Industrial Hygiene (IH) testing for all Performance Centers
  • Complete all scheduled Corporate EHS risk assessments as assigned by Regional EHS Manager
  • Training, Inspections and Auditing Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible for safety training, coordination, and distribution of all weekly safety training topics for all employees
  • Inspect equipment for unsafe workplace conditions
  • Ensure safety inspections are completed and track corrective actions to completion
  • Suggest solutions, improvements and prevention steps for safety issues found during inspections and risk assessments
  • EH&S Metrics and Performance Management Responsibilities: 
  • Successfully deliver continuous improvement for the Performance Center for the following metrics: Lagging Indicators: Lost Time Incident; OSHA recordables; Leading Indicators: First Aid and Near Misses; Successful regulatory audits/inspections; Successful completion rate of closing action items; Successful completion rate of all EHS compliance calendar items; Successful completion rate of all scheduled inspections
  • Sustainability Metrics: Track Usage and Environmental Components for the following: GHG Emissions; Energy Usage; Scope 1 and 2 Emissions; Spills; Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste; Water Consumption
