Registered Nurse (S)

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence.

The primary purpose of this position is to work in the electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) suite. This RN will work with patients, physicians, and other medical professionals to provide comprehensive care to all patients receiving ECT at CRH. When not working in the ECT suite, this RN position works in the EHS clinic. The duties in the EHS clinic include, but are not limited to, evaluating and treating/stabilizing, both injured and sick employees, and referring them to their Primary Health Care Providers or arranging treatment for them with area hospitals in emergencies.

Salary Range: $61,177.00 - $91,767.00

Recruitment Range: $70,000.00 - $88,348.00

*A Sign-on bonus of $10,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent upon Budget Approval.*

The primary purpose of this position is to work in the ECT suite. This RN will work with patients, physicians, and other medical professionals to provide comprehensive care to all patients receiving ECT at CRH. Duties include all aspects of patient and environmental care involved with pre-sedation, intra-sedation, and post-sedation care of patients undergoing ECT. This includes, but is not limited to, suite cleaning and setup, patient assessment/monitoring (initial, ongoing, and post), vital sign monitoring, ECG (Placement, monitoring, and arrythmias), IV placement, IV fluid infusion, oxygen support, care of and protection of the unconscious patient, documentation, and post anesthesia care and principles. The RN is expected to have in-depth understanding and knowledge all equipment and pharmacology used in the ECT suite.

When not working in the ECT suite, this RN position works in the EHS clinic. The duties in the EHS clinic include, but are not limited to, evaluating and treating/stabilizing, both injured and sick employees, and referring them to their Primary Health Care Providers or arranging treatment for them with area hospitals in emergencies. Act as back up RN for new employee screenings, return to work after illness/injury, immunization administration, fit testing and compiling of monthly reports. Provides follow up care to injured employees seen during regular business hours and for employees who received initial treatment on the CRH medical unit. At times, fills in for the Nurse supervisor during the supervisor's absence. Fills in for LPN duties as needed.

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.

This position is Exempt from certain provisions of The State Human Resources Act (GS 126)

This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

This is a full-time position and is eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement. The normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; However, flexibility is required to meet training and educational requirements.

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

  • The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)
  • The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency
  • DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
