Job description

The Food Safety Director is responsible for leading and protecting the restaurant’s food safety culture by ensuring excellence in all food handling, preparation, holding, cleaning, sanitation, and operational execution. This leader works in operations daily, coaching team members in real time, identifying areas of opportunity, correcting gaps, and ensuring the restaurant is health inspection ready at all times.

This role is highly visible, detail-oriented, and hands-on. The Food Safety Director partners closely with leaders and team members to uphold Chick-fil-A standards, maintain compliance, and drive continuous improvement in food safety systems across the restaurant.

Pay: $22-$24 per hour

Job Requirements:

  • Works predominantly in operations
  • Executes daily checks of key risk items (i.e. sanitizer, cold temps, hot temps, labels, hand washing)
  • Ensure 100% of Food Safety Assessments are getting done, send weekly recap of findings/monthly themes are communicated and addressed 
  • Ensures we are health department and Ecosure compliant all day, every day
  • Walks with the health inspectors and Ecosure representatives on quarterly inspections to ensure a 100% score and/or Food Safety score of 1
  • Responsible for ensuring product quality and food safety recalls are addressed and proper credit sought/food is discarded
  • Ensures all product is rotated correctly using our FIFO system to ensure, eliminating waste
  • Meets with Directors and Supervisors to address areas of opportunities
  • Creates and implements systems to ensure 100% compliance 
  • Looks for visible and physical evidence of pests and small animals that could cause contamination in the food preparation area
  • Constantly updates knowledge and information on food safety to stay relevant and compliant with local health department and Chick-fil-A standards
  • Coordinates with the FOH and BOH leaders to schedule training sessions to improve quality or food safety, ensuring all standards are met
  • Ensures Team Members are knowledgeable about our Employee Health policy and adhering to all requirements

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Food safety score: Zero immediate or high risk findings and no more than 2 combined medium or low violations; zero repeat findings in consecutive quarters
  • Food Safety score of a 1
  • Develop a health inspection/Ecosure inspection ready restaurant all day, every day
  • Ensure completion of 100% of the Food Safety Assessments daily/weekly
  • Must have less than 4 recurring FSA findings within a week 
  • Create a team of food safety pros who can act as trainers for their areas
  • Walk with the health inspector and Ecosure representative to achieve a 100% score
  • Ensure zero waste due to incorrect rotating system (constant use of FIFO system)
  • Any findings from FSAs, walkthroughs, Mock Ecosure visits, and Ecosure visits are assessed and addressed in a systematic manner to prevent recurring findings
  • Ensure a rotation of leaders to walk in Mock Ecosure walkthroughs (2 minimum, ensuring 1 full walkthrough happens at varying day parts weekly)
  • Stay updated on rotational/quarterly focuses with new informational-only or scored questions for Smart Shop and Ecosure
