Job description

 The Senior Business Central Developer works under the direction of the Senior Manager, Application Development and Data Services, applying development skills to solve complex business problems in a timely   manner. This is a hands-on development role focused on developing, supporting, and maintaining our Microsoft Dynamics Business Central (on-premises) environment, while continuing to support the existing   Dynamics NAV 2018 system during the transition. The role requires the ability to work independently or as part of a larger project team, and is highly visible across the business, requiring high availability and   responsiveness throughout business hours. The Senior Business Central Developer is responsible for the full development cycle in Business Central, from design through change control, deployment, and   handover  to support.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, and deploy AL extensions in Microsoft Dynamics Business Central following Microsoft best practice (extension-based, upgrade-safe development). The total solution may include a variety of Microsoft products including SQL Server, Power BI, and the Power Platform, as well as integrations and custom development.
    • Write and maintain program code or modify existing extensions to customize Business Central to business needs.
    • Adheres to all departmental and team policies for design, development, and testing and deployment documentation. Additionally, the team member will follow all documented design and coding standards.
    • Perform unit, system and integration testing of solutions.
    • Collaborate with other developers, Business Analysts and implementation team members to establish software requirements and ensure project operations are executed.
  • Resolve production issues in coordination with the Business.
  • Lead and/or participate in discovery analysis meetings with the BA to understand current business processes that need to be incorporated into Business Central.
  • Support and maintain the existing Dynamics NAV 2018 environment during the transition to Business Central.
  • Conduct GAP analysis to determine differences between the application and business processes.
  • Build and maintain integrations between Business Central and other systems using APIs, web services, and OData.
  • Participate in the evaluation and technical analysis of business requirements, and assist in defining program requirements and software configuration
  • Coordinate, plan, and facilitate releases: follow change-control processes, manage deployments, and hand over completed changes to support with appropriate documentation.
  • Manage Business Central cumulative updates and version upgrades on-premises, in coordination with IT/infrastructure.
  • Document system architecture and technical specifications.
    • Creates effective technical manuals for developed solutions.
    • Be a domain expert. Become familiar with the business processes and apply technology to implement business requirements.
  • Assist in developing and implementing system testing and in debugging program errors.
  • Work with the database team to help optimize performance in our ERP platform.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 4–6 years of experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Hands-on technical experience on end-to-end ERP implementations using Microsoft Dynamics Business Central / NAV and various ERP modules and industry processes for Finance.
  • Programming using AL and extension-based development in Visual Studio Code, plus C/AL experience across NAV versions up to NAV 2018
  • Strong Microsoft SQL Server understanding
  • Familiarity with running Business Central / NAV on-premises (Windows Server, IIS, the Business Central Server / NAV service tier, and SQL Server databases)
  • Able to customize new functionality
  • Coordinate, Plan and facilitate or participate in all releases within the specific application area
  • Experience on deployments
  • Coordinate handover of changes/Projects to support
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • MS Dynamics NAV functional experience in finance, inventory, purchasing and distribution is a plus
  • Experience with retail/POS systems and EDI a plus.
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI) a plus
  • Experience developing applications using structured query language (SQL) Server as the database
  • Experience with Azure DevOps / Git source control
  • Hands on experience integrating legacy systems
