WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • The Certification Engineer / DER provides engineering approval and certification support for aircraft modifications, repairs, and product development programs in accordance with FAA regulations. Acting as a Designated Engineering Representative (DER), you will exercise delegated authority from the FAA to approve engineering data, support Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs), Parts Manufacturer Approvals (PMAs), and major repairs. You will:
    • Review, evaluate, and approve engineering data and substantiation packages in accordance with FAA regulations and guidance.
    • Act as an authorized FAA DER in assigned discipline(s), such as Structures, Systems & Equipment, Electrical, or Powerplant.
    • Prepare and approve certification reports, test plans, and compliance documentation.
    • Ensure certification activities comply with FAR Part 21, Part 25, Part 43, and other applicable regulations.
    • Interface with FAA, EASA, and other regulatory authorities regarding certification projects.
    • Provide technical guidance to engineering teams during design and development to ensure certifiability of modifications and components.
    • Support the development and approval of STCs, PMAs, and major repair or alteration approvals.
    • Participate in conformity inspections, witnessing of tests, and regulatory compliance activities.
    • Collaborate with quality and compliance teams to prepare for FAA and customer audits.
    • Maintain detailed records of approved data, test results, and certification activities.
    • Mentor engineers and provide training on certification requirements, policies, and procedures.
    • Manage multiple certification projects under tight deadlines.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance certification processes and compliance.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support engineering, certification, and program objectives.

WHAT YOU BRING:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
    • FAA DER delegation in appropriate discipline(s) required.
    • 10+ years of experience in aircraft certification, engineering, or related aerospace field.
    • Strong knowledge of FAA and EASA certification processes, including STCs, PMAs, and major repair approvals.
    • Experience preparing and reviewing compliance data, reports, and substantiation documentation.
    • Proficiency in engineering analysis tools relevant to your discipline (e.g., structural analysis, electrical loads, systems testing).
    • Familiarity with AS9100/ISO 9001 quality management systems.
    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and regulatory compliance mindset.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with regulators, customers, and internal teams.
    • Ability to manage multiple certification projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
    • Team-oriented and able to work independently, cross-functionally, and across remote locations.
    • Must be willing to work in a specific region and potentially relocate to support that region.
    • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
    • Must submit to and pass pre-employment drug testing and any applicable company/FAA Drug and Alcohol Abuse Program that may be required.
    • Must be able to pass required background checks, including a 10-year TSA check if airport access or badging is required.
