Compensation: $30.00 per hour for classroom instruction and $120.00 per student for Behind the Wheel instruction.

Location: Primarily Main Campus, but any other college location as assigned by the appropriate administrator
SUMMARY

Through a combination of classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, the Driver's Education Instructor will be responsible for delivering Driver's Education courses, teaching students to operate vehicles, and instilling respect for state driving laws and parking regulations.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
  • Conduct classroom and behind the wheel instruction consistent with the Kansas (DMV) requirements and Kansas Department of Education (KSDE) standards to prepare new student drivers for successful licensure.
  • Create an inclusive environment that is conducive to serving students while meeting the requirements of federal, state, and local mandates.
  • Prepare and deliver an 8-hour classroom instructional program for a group of students and 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction with each student.
  • Track all aspects of each student's driver education training and related communications and report information to students, parents, and school management personnel.
  • Maintain impeccable safety standards.
  • Maintain efficient and effective operations of all areas under employee's direction and control.
  • Ability to work during evenings and on weekends as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Driver's education teaching endorsement issued by the Kansas State Department of Education from date of hire and retain the certification throughout employment.
  • Valid Driver's License and no license suspensions, DUI, DWI or Chemical Test failures or similar citations within the past three (3) years.
  • Successful annual background check with a physical from a doctor and an acceptable MVR background check with no more than three (3) moving violations within the last three (3) years and no suspended violations in the last three (3) years.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Kansas Teaching License.
  • Two (2) years' teaching experience.
  • One year Driver's Education instructor.
  • Experience teaching at-risk youth.
  • Previous successful professional experience in areas such as law enforcement, paramedic, firefighting, teaching, coaching, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and ability to work with various student and faculty population.
  • High energy, self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of employees in the organization.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.

WORK SCHEDULE
KCKCC Driver's Education schedule is flexible upon the instructor's availability matching the needs of the program. The 9-hour classroom instruction is scheduled by the instructor and provided to the administration office for Fall, Summer, and Spring course schedules by set deadline dates. The students behind the wheel instruction hours are scheduled with the Driver's Education instructor during the scheduled classroom instruction. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
