Job description

Keeneland Security Officers are "Essential Employees" and shall expect schedules to change as necessary to support operations as needed. Keeneland Security Officers shall receive adequate resources, proper tools and training (all uniforms & equipment provided), and knowledge-based skills needed to successfully perform job tasks, while taking calculated risks. Keeneland Security Officers patrol and protect Keeneland grounds, and ensure the safety of visitors, patrons and employees.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma. Keeneland management shall acknowledge equivalent experience and education, or combination thereof.
  • Applicant preferred to posses at least two (2) years of Armed Experience, i.e., Military, Armed Private Security, Law Enforcement, Corrections, etc.
    • If citing prior Military Service, regardless of Active Duty, Reserve, or National Guard Service, you must provide a DD-214 Form to Keeneland Association upon request. Any reason for separation from Military Service other than an "Discharge" will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Must possess a clean driving record and be free of felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude, protective orders, domestic or workplace violence; or anything that would preclude him/her from possessing/carrying a firearm.
  • Must successfully complete a thorough background investigation, and medical screening, to include a drug screening.
  • Must complete 40 hours of indoctrination training including, but not limited to, Keeneland policies and procedures, firearm proficiency, use of force, legal parameters and guidelines, conflict de-escalation, evacuation procedures, and assessing/dealing with critical incidents, etc. In addition, he/she is required to complete at least 32 hours of annual in-service/refresher training.
  • Armed Security Officers are issued firearms and are required to demonstrate proficiency upon hire (during indoctrination training), as well as multiple times annually.
  • Must be willing to work any shift during a 24-hour period with minimal advanced notice. During April and October Race Meets, it is required to work extended hours, (overtime is mandatory during April and October Race Meet).
  • Possess good communication skills (verbal & written).
  • Must have sound judgement while using discretion in dealings with patrons and employees.
  • Must demonstrate good customer relations and interaction skills as well as the ability to think on their feet.
  • Must be capable of operating in a multi-task environment as well as have the ability to contribute to a team atmosphere.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
  • Patrol and inspect buildings and grounds to ensure all is secure, i.e., verifying intrusion alarms are active; building/doors are locked, etc.
  • Ensure, and maintain, the safety of visitors, patrons and employees.
  • Regulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic to maintain orderly flow while reducing congestion.
  • Records data and thoroughly documents traffic collisions, thefts, acts of vandalism, assaults, suspicious activities, as well as any applicable incident or situation.
  • Complete daily vehicle pre-inspection reports, and patrol operation logs.
  • Perform vehicle lockout procedures.
  • Provide secure escorts to patrons and employees when requested.
  • Coordinate with police and fire agencies during emergencies and assist as needed.
  • Perform and/or assist with CPR and First Aid as needed.
  • Assist Keeneland visitors with information and direction as needed.
  • Provides currency escorts to various locations throughout Grandstand and Keeneland property.
  • Control entry/exit point of Keeneland Dormitory as well as ensuring all dormitory residents register as guests and adhere to rules and regulations.
  • Assist with ejections of applicable parties from Keeneland Dormitory, and grounds, in accordance with Keeneland polices and Kentucky Racing Commission guidelines.
  • Assists Kentucky Horse Racing Commission personnel as requested.
  • Assist Stewards during Race Meetings as requested.
  • Assist with locating lost visitors and patrons.
  • Provide security in barns and stables as needed.
  • Monitor and control internal intrusion alarms, and surveillance camera systems.
  • Operates in Security Operations Center - tasks include, but not limited to, answering telephones, dispatching calls for service, report taking, assigning dormitory rooms, ensuring Keeneland Lodge rules and regulations are acknowledged and adhered to by dormitory residents, etc.
  • Additional duties assigned as needed and/or as circumstances dictate
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, patrol procedures, and any other relevant manual(s). Ability to accurately prepare and complete incident reports. Fluency in Spanish language strongly preferred.
  • Ability to speak effectively to, and before, groups of customers or employees within organization.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Must possess Kentucky Driver's License and be able to attain a Kentucky Horse Racing License in which Keeneland will provide upon hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing job functions, he/she is regularly required to comprehend and verbally communicate. The employee must be able to lift and/or move 50 pounds or more, on occasion. Vision abilities required by this role include close, distant, color, and peripheral, as well as accurate depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
