Job description

Residential Aide

Local School District Seeking a compassionate and dependable Residential Aide to support students living in a dormitory setting. Ability to work onsite evening hours from 3:30 pm - 11 pm, Sunday - Thursday. This role is focused on helping individuals build independence, communication skills, and life skills while ensuring safety and routine structure. The Residential Aide works closely with dorm and school staff to create a supportive environment that fosters personal growth and emotional regulation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with daily routines such as toileting, hygiene, meals, and self-care.
  • Supervise and engage students during meals, recreation, and evening routines.
  • Provide reminders, prompts, and redirection to encourage task completion.
  • Support sensory and behavioral needs, including de-escalation during crisis situations.
  • Encourage independence in daily living tasks (cooking, laundry, organization).
  • Monitor free time, ensuring communication before transitions.
  • Track and report progress; communicate observations with staff.
  • Foster skills that move students toward independence and reduced aide reliance.
Qualifications
  • Experience in residential care, special education, or caregiving preferred.
  • Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to balance structure with flexibility.
  • Physical and emotional stamina to meet varied demands.
  • Commitment to helping individuals achieve greater independence.
  • 1-3 years as a Home Healthcare Aide or Classroom Student Aide experience.
  • Degree in Early Childhood Education or Special Education preferred.
  • Experience working with autistic or MD children preferred.
  • Ability to lift 30-100 pounds.
  • Ability to ergonomically perform navigational task with student (push, pull, lift).
  • Ability to clear federal background check and drug screen.
  • CPI Certification Preferred.
  • CPR Certification Preferred.
  • ASL American Sign Language skills
MUST HAVE:
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Vehicle for Reliable Transportation.
  • ASL - American Sign Language
  • Ability to work onsite evening hours from 3:30 pm - 11 pm, Sunday - Thursday.
